I'm trying to install ACR 5.7 on Photoshop CS4 (Windows machine). Every time I run the download the ACR install screen launches but the 'progress bar' doesn't progress! Eventually the install screen greys out completely. :bang:

ACR 5.0 is already installed. I tried 5.3 (as a precursor to 5.7) but that greyed out too. :bang::bang::bang:

Any ideas folks?

PS. I believe 5.7 is the last version of ACR suitable for CS4 - all later versions are for CS5.

Ah, that does the trick!

I was using the other download (the 95MB one) and the auto install method.

Many thanks.

Your not alone, I never managed to get any auto updates with CS4, couriously it works fine with CS5.

I've had ACR auto-install work before, although it may have been with CS3 (can't remember). I wonder what kept stopping it in CS4  The installer screen launched properly but that's about it.

Thats exactly what I used to get.

Now I'm not saying that anyone is doing this, but some 'copies' of CS* don't allow updates because presumably the program was altered to not contact Adobe in the correct way, or indeed contact them at all.

Now if I had this problem, and I had paid so much  for the program, I would have been onto Adobe to make the updates work properly. ;)

Have you ever tried to contact Adobe by phone? It's much easier to do the manual install (and cheaper) And I pay for my copies of photoshop, or at least my business does.

Or any software company by phone. The one and only time I phoned Microsoft they charged me £50 and they still couldn't fix the issue. :bang:

I think the ACR issue is something to do with the download rather than validation. There are two versions of ACR 5.7 - one is 45MB, the other is 95MB. I used the latter and it stalled repeatedly even though the installer launched properly.

I haven't phoned them for help, but I have phoned them to help a friend buy the student version of CS5 and found it easy, and the chap at their end was very friendly and helpful. :)

Their support phone lines may be different. ;)

It is very easy to update ACR manually. Whether Adobe leave it like that is another thing. ;)

Sales lines are always easy & helpful because they make money. Support lines are always a nightmare because they don't make money.

The exception to the rule is Nikon's tech support - oh, and Ikegami's (a real Rolls Royce service).
