Yes
I've just had a quick look at upgrading to Lightroom v2 and noticed that the cost was $99 in the States but guess what, £81.08 here.

Robbing barstewards. :bang:

Wouldn't mind betting they've been robbed right back many times over through copyright theft.

It is an annoying policy of overpricing we have to put up with here though and it's not just Adobe that are to blame.

I'm sure they'll say the extra costs are due to developing international language versions for the european market. I'd believe them if they managed to spell colour correctly and the installer had an option for English (UK).

But seeing how I get served up the same code as the US users why should I have to foot the bill for the french, german, etc. versions?

There is no English English version, just English (US) on the installer. It's still a good product and worth the cost IMO.

It's about £20 more than the US price when you take into account VAT.

Another :agree: here.

Oh, and are there NO foreign speakers in America then?

no one ever says there optics are overpriced just how good it is bit one sided

Is it not available through the Adobe Download Store, or does that not exist anymore? Then you'd only have to pay the US price right?

You could choose to pay less and get it boxed and shipped to you rather than the more expensive electronic download.

Big software companies need to get their act together. Sure there are regional taxes which may differ - but simply replacing $ with a £ isn't fair. Lowering prices will increase sales and legal customer base.

I think the difference in price between box and download is due to the box being charged VAT at UK rate (17.5%) and the download at Irish rate (21%). There was an EU ruling about 3 years ago that downloads had to be charged VAT at the rate of the EU office of the company supplying downloads. Symantec have the same issue.

Its not just the development costs... Marketing, Distribution, Currency etc etc.. I work for a software company and our prices differ amazingly between country, the price reflects what the product is worth in that country.

the price reflects what the product is worth in that country.

We all know a product is worth whatever people will pay for it, and in the UK we are stupid enough to pay more. If nobody and I mean nobody in the UK bought it the price would drop.

It seems it may be worth waiting anyway on www.fredmiranda.com there have been a few issues reported...particuarly if you are not running your comp at more than 2GB...
Different tax regimes..not Adobes fault.. then again if no one bought it they would lower the price wouldn't they, isn't that how supply and demand works??

Why not spread the costs across all the customers? Other companies seem to manage it.

I bought mine from the USA site with a bit of creativity.

29 July ADOBE SYSTEMS, INC. 888-724-4508 84.15 USD £43.51

I refuse point blank to pay double for an electronic download (which is really just a license + serial number), just because I am in the UK. Its a ****take of the highest order, and indefensible IMHO.

Well just to add to the fact we all think Adobe take the **** , i purchase a full version of photoshop 2 back in the very early days , upgraded right through to Photoshop 5 paying each time , I moved to the good all USA for a few years , when i came back it was photoshop 7 tried to upgrade and got an invalid serial number rang adobe with the serial number old account number and details to be told sorry we changed our system whilst i was abroad & my serial number was no longer valid , the only way i could proceed was to purchase a new full version of photoshop 7 , me not being at **** off told them they could stick that were the sun dont shine

They probably have, although if they priced it more reasonable people would pay it.

I have the odd "copy" of software on my computer that i felt was overpriced, but any shareware i use, i always make a donation.

Its all about being reasonable and fair.
