Hey guys I'm wondering if you can help me? Im trying to take pictures of the moon (it's finally out, lol) I got the setting in M mode and on bulb, the only thing that comes out sort of alright, I seen people say bump up the aperture, i can't get it past f8, I have the ISO set at 100/200, people say long exposure is the best for night time, I have a canon 350D, would appreciate some advice :)

What lens are you using? If you have one of the cheap mirror lenses they have a maximum aperture of f8 or even smaller.

hi ,are you using your 18-55 lens?Try f10 @ 20mm iso 400 and switch of the I.S.You don't need I.S on when on a tripod.Try starting at 10sec exposure and go up or down depending on light poloution, Use the timer if you don't have a cable release.

Yes I'm using the 18-55, I also have the nifty fifty and a tripod to go with it too, but when your in bulb I can't adjust anything else on the wheel

The moon is brighter than you think and it is moving.
If it is a clear night try f8 1/125 and 100 ISO.
Adjust the shutter speed to get the best exposure.

Holding the AV button on the back and rotating the wheel/dial should allow you to adjust the aperture.

You don't want to be in Bulb mode for the moon as it is moving, as mentioned above and will streak across the sensor I used 1/200 f8 iso100 for last full-ish moon.

It will look very small at 55mm however - I got semi decent results (for the money) with a 55-250 at the long end.

google moon exposure calculator i found one at adidap.com.

moon (or just night) pictures! just set F8 for sharpness, use a tripod or a flat surface and set a timer with a long exposure time ( i would try 3 seconds) you can keep 100 ISO.

thanks i will try that when the moon is out, also i've been trying to master night time shots to, its not easy in my street cos of the low light. But i'll keep trying with the moon, eventually i will get it right if i keep at it :)
