Addressing a Lady

Yes
Just received an order from a genuine Lady (not a tandem-rider with a heavy moustache).

The previous occasion I dealt with one (we'll call her Josephine Bloggs), she signed her letter Josephine Bloggs but her cheque details stated Lady Josephine Bloggs, which is how I addressed the package.

This one, Josette Bloggs, used PayPauper and the address details came through as Josette Lady Bloggs. She's genuine (don't know about the moustache), but it's the first time I've seen that form of address. I guess, to be strictly correct, it should be Josette, Lady Bloggs (wiv a comma).

On a webpage where she's mentioned as Josette Lady Bloggs there's another aristo with her name stated in the form: The Lady Joanne Bloggs.

I'm sure they all fart like the rest of us.

OK, back to what you were doing . . .

If she used PayPauper, just use the name and address exactly as PayPauper shows it...

Address her as you would any other woman (using a good permanent marker) - but lick her a55 not the back of the stamp.

Dont forget to touch your forelock when you lick the stamp.

'Oi!' should do it :D

If they have the title of "lady" or even "Sir" for males, then it should be Lady/Sir [first name] if you were speaking to them.
Ortherwise, it is written as Lady/Sir [first name] [surname]

I've found out that the form of address indicates she's a divorcee (better tell Heppers; hope she's more Lady Penelope than Dame Barbara Cartland, though both are stiff in their own way).

When it's of the form The Lady Joanne Bloggs it means she's the daughter of a peer.

For yer bog-standard normal, married Lady, the title & surname (but not first name) should be used when addressing correspondence, unless there would be confusion with some other Lady Bloggs.

Is that implied ownership? Like the Mrs David Bloggs for the wife? Lady Bloggs being the wife of Lord Bloggs.

And the eldest daughter being Miss Bloggs and the other daughters being Miss Emily Bloggs and Miss Esmerelda Bloggs.

I just call the 'Lady' that I know by her nickname! But when I'm writing her a letter I address it to 'Lady Josette Bloggs'.
