Actions in Elements 9 ?

Is it possible? I really need to speed up my workflow when processing series of shots in certain styles etc.

If so can anyone give me any tips or reccomend any books that cover it in detail.

You can use actions in Elements 9 but you can't create them, they have to be made in the full version of photoshop. There are some preloaded ones there and you can download lots more from the net.
You can find the actions palette here. Click the Edit tab➝Guided➝Automated Actions➝Action Player.

Try action central theres lots there to start you off. What sort of thing are you looking for?

Things like with a set of images where the lighting is consistent to be able to set a nice b&w conversion for the first one, then be able to 'one click' the rest of them instead of have to do the whole thing over again a dozen times, does that make sense.
