Would like to get myself an 'Action Cam' to use when cycling, mostly for mountain biking so I can 'revisit' some of the beautiful trails around here and show my wife where I have been. :)

I would prefer not to spend £200 > £300 on GoPros etc and wondered if anyone had experience of something up to say . . . £150.00 that they would recommend.

I do not need 4K, HD 30fps should be adequate and i would hope to mount it on my bike helmet.

Cheers.

2nd hand gopro? Can normally pick them up in bundles with loads of accessories and spares.

Something like a 3 or a session 4 is still perfectly good. Things seem to last forever, and the plethora of accessories available..

Otherwise you have the Chinese gopro clones, can't comment on their reliability or support if something goes wrong.

The previous UK gopro disti (before gopro took back control) now sells silver label cameras (another gopro clone, see a pattern forming?) not used them but might be worth a look

I have one of the cheap Chinese ones off of amazon a vicsing one , on a holiday to greece that involved a lot of swimming pool filming and photos and also swimming and snorkelling in the sea .there was absolutely no diffence in either sound or picture/video quality between mine at aroun£ £40 and my lads go pro at £300 +

SJCAM 4000 around the £50 to £100 mark for an HD camera. I've had one for years using it daily as a dash cam, they usually come with a host of fittings and spare batteries.

I bought a wasp cam 4K from 7dayshop for £25. Works well enough for me; downsides are only one battery supplied and have to reset the date + time when you change the battery. Got 2 spare batteries and usb charger fro amazon for £10 (sj4000 compatible ones fit)
Comes with helmet and handlebar mounts.

Get one of these, I actually use it as a dash cam on my car for the past 2 years. It still works every time I start the car.

Well thank you guys, something to get my teeth into there, I will check out some of your recommendations.

The miser in me wants to buy a Chinese low cost option but experience tells me ‘buy quality, buy once’

I need to make a decision, that’s the difficult bit.

trouble is theres nothing quality about these cameras ,the Chinese clones give exactly the same results as the expensive ones and usually come with a box full of extras as well i.e all the mounts . and seeing that they can be bought for circa £50 on amazon with there returns policy its a no brainer

I have 2 of these (bought 2 in case one craps out - and to give me a spare battery!) and have used them for live recording of bike rides (motorbike) of 2 1/2 hours duration as well as time lapse of bike rides and sunsets. Cheap enough to get a bagful rather than one real GoPro. If you charge the battery in the camera, the thing remembers the date and time but if you take it out to charge, it'll forget. I also have a Git and the batteries for that fit the Wasps (as well as the Wasp batteries fitting the Git charger.)
