So instead of copying it all thought it might help to link to it at least.

EF-S - ElectroFocus - Sometimes (Lenses Built for EOS Series) :D

The L and red line on Canon lenses isn't for luxury, it signifies it contains low dispersion ED and fluorite element glass.

Very good! Didn't know half of those myself  I knew what the letters did to the lens/camera just not what they stood for haha.

OOF - Out of Focus
DOF - Depth of Field

What is the Canon "L" Lens Series?

Good question - and many answers exist, but it is Canon's professional line (though used extensively by non-professionals) of EOS EF autofocus 35mm SLR and DSLR still camera lenses. Some say L stands for "Low Distortion" - achieved by the U D lens elements found in these lenses. But, the true answer is probably the one in Canon's Lens Work III Book - "L" is for "Luxury".

 I've never really loved that acronym, I'm sure I've seen it written as 'tug' once or twice.

"Couples are advised to indulge themselves in a professional tug prior to the big day".
