Acer computer to Samsung monitor issue

No
Afternoon all.

I bought a new Acer computer last November and linked it to my Samsung monitor. For some reason I had the odd problem where no signal was found between the 2 of them and I had to reboot. Eventually I found I could get them to operate correctly if I turned them on in a certain sequence. A couple of months later this stopped working and all I got on the screen was 'no signal found'. I am connecting using HDMI by the way.

I changed to another HDMI cable and got the same.

I tried the monitor on a lap top and it was fine (using the same cables).

I returned the PC to Acer thinking it must be the HDMI port on the PC. They returned it saying they had carried out a full 8 hour diagnostics and that nothing was found. When I plugged it in the issue had gone. I have been using it for a couple of months with no further issues. This afternoon, it's started again and all I can get is 'no signal'.

Any help ref drivers or anything else?????

Oh and when I had the issue a VGA cable worked fine.

Try a different HDMI cable.

Yes, I know the one you have works with the same PC and TV, but I'm just debugging a similar issue here and the circuit the manufacturer is using is having problems handshaking with certain TV sets. When you change the cable, it is fine (in fact, if you plug a 'scope on it, it is fine - that's how marginal it is).

I have 2 cables and the result is the same with both.
:(

Do you have something else you can check the monitor works with. My bet is some incompatibility in the hardware design of one or the laptop or monitor.

I checked it the last time and it worked fine with another lap top in the house. Will try again later.

I agree ref compatability, just seems strange that one minute it works then all of a sudden it doesn't.

Can't afford to be without so will have to buy another, unless someone comes up with another idea?

Can you not use a dvi cable? I work fixing acer pc's and coupled with windows8 its causing huge problems when people are using HDMI.

Shouldn't be any different. HDMI and DVI are the same signals - just in a different plug. I say shouldn't mind you... ;)

Seems a common topic with this display. Seems that if the signal is too weak then it doesn't like it.

I know you said you tried two cables but were they the same make? Have you updated graphics drivers recently? Or it could be a defective (or maybe gummed up) hdmi port?

It looks like it might be the monitor this time. I have plugged it into other devices and I'm getting the same thing. No signal.

Oh well, time to start another thread for recommendations I guess.

Thanks for your comments chaps.
