Hi all,

Noob alert.

I have and basic tripod, like most it just screws on to the camera with a nob under the base it sits on. I was wondering is there some sort of accessory that I can attach to the camera and tripod where I'm able to attach my camera more quickly ?
If so what is it called as i've tried to search for one but not sure what to call it or if it exists?

Thanks

Any half decent tripod will have a quick release plate that screws on the base if the camera and locks on the tripod with a simple locking lever.

You need a tripod head that incorporates a quick release plate :)

Great thanks, I managed to find one but doesn't list my specific tripod ... just trying to find out if it will fit :) have emailed the company direct.

Thanks for your help

You will probably need to get a different tripod.

If you do need a new tripod, have a look at the Redsnapper range - they're well thought of and not too expensive :)

Quick-realease plates are part of the head. There are a few different kinds of QR about and most are not compatible with eachother, apart from the one known as Arca-Swiss. This is the favoured QR system for top end tripods and is used by a lot of the best brands.

Unless your tripod is unusual, the head will unscrew. They all have a 3/8in or 1/4in Whitworth thread, and almost any head will bolt straight on to that (possibly via a tiny bushing adapter to reduce the size).

You can spend as much as you like, but for £100 the RedSnappers are unbeatable value - the 283 or 284, with the very nice RSH-12 ball head which also has an Arca-Swiss style QR plate which you just leave attached to the camera. You can buy the head separately for £50. Phone Joe at RedSnapper and you'll get an extra 10% off if you mention this website
