accessing windows pc from an ipad

Hi have just bought an iPad for the missus and myself
Always said I'd never get one but eating my words now as I think its great

Just thinking about using it as a replacement for a laptop for viewing photos while away on holiday and wondering about how to use it for storage of say 50 gb of raws
At the moment I use my laptop and save the piccies to and external drive
Someone told me that you can upload to your pc at home if you have WiFi and the PC is left turned on
Is this possible?
Ps there is the option of dropbox but they are quite expensive at 100 quid a year and are limited to 100gb
I already use carbonite but the upload speed to them is restricted and slow

Well for 50gb of raw you'd need the 64gb iPad straight off the bat and that wouldn't leave much room for anything else..

So basically you're asking if you took photos while out and about, download from the camera to the iPad (via the camera connector kit) and have them transfer to your pc?

You could use Dropbox but I'm pretty sure the files need to be present on the iPad (I.e a sync)

You could set up FTP on your home machine but 50gb of data would take an age.

I've got the 32 gb iPad
It does look like it is not really feasible but at least I could view the shots on the iPad
haven't got the camera connection kit yet only just bought the iPad got the retina screen one with wi fi:)
 
For more than a few raw files its going to be a nightmare with transfer speeds, unless you have high speed Internet at home and can find an equally fast upload out and about
 
Good point our broadband is pretty slow at home
