I purchased a yashica tlr d from ebay. I knew it had problems with the lower shutter speed and the person was lovely, and wasn't happy about sending it, so got it fixed (somehow)

I got it today, and low and behold, it broke on me. The shutter wont fire at all now. Absolutely gutted and now so poor.

Thats really annoying, I'd send it back and get a refund. I know they say it was repaired but it sounds like a bodge job to me, although I am a bit cynical.;)

The person was lovely, we had lovely chats about cameras and dogs, he said the shutter speeds werent accurate on the lower ends and then just before sending said he wasn't happy with it, so got it fixed. He said it was perfect. The focusing knob seems quite loose though I dont know if its supposed to be that way. The shutter was still a bit odd, and there is gunk on the blades. But it fired. Until I did something, clearly. I've messaged him kindly asking for a refund (on his ebay it says he gives refunds) and im waiting to hear back.

The kind person got back to me and has really, really apologised and has offered me another yashica D, with the newer lenses. I dont really know what to do.

Straight swap or would you have to pay more?

I'm also cynical and would ask for details of who 'fixed' the camera - every time I've had some work done, it's come back with a warranty so neither of you would be out of pocket if it went back to be repaired properly.

Failing that, I'd return it for a refund, it's not as described and you shouldn't be out of pocket.

If its a straight swap then I'd go for it. Sounds like an honest seller made an honest mistake and is trying to put it right....oh! look at that my cynicism has all gone away.

I'd personally get it refunded and start again fresh. These are old cameras, and they do need repair sometimes, but if your budget buys you a clean working example, why shouldn't you get one?

Newer lenses? Just swapped em has they? No, all sounds dodgy to me. Nice talk is cheap, go for the FULL refund including ALL postage costs.

Thats the luck of the draw on flea-buy.

Sounds dodgy to me.... Would just get your cash back asap!

The man is so, so lovely, and we spoke over the phone today. I've decided to go ahead on the swap (straight swap)

Oddly the camera has started firing again, but I dont think the speeds are accurate. And I would like something a bit more reliable.
