A mother was beaten up on her doorstep in a "sustained and brutal" attack in front of her two children.

The 34-year-old was repeatedly hit by two men with baseball bats after answering a knock at the door of her home in Prestwich, Greater Manchester.

Greater Manchester Police said her two sons, aged nine and four, witnessed the attack and were screaming throughout.

The women suffered head injuries and a broken arm in the attack on Wednesday. Police are appealing for witnesses.

The victim went to answer the door at about 1945 GMT at her home in Polefield Circle.

There was no-one there, so the mother peered round the corner and was immediately confronted by the men.

They hit her over the head and she fell to the floor. The pair continued to hit the woman as her children looked on.

Det Sgt John Charlton, of Greater Manchester Police, said: "This was a sustained and brutal attack on a mother in front of her children.

"These cold-hearted thugs must have seen the children cowering behind their mother, but their screams meant nothing to them.

"We now want to hear from anyone who saw two men acting suspiciously in the area or from anyone who might know they carried out this attack."

The offenders were white, aged in their 20s and were wearing dark clothing. One had a long face and a moustache or goatee beard while the other had a shaved head.

This is literally minutes away from me.
I was brought up never to hit a girl/woman. And for someone to do this to a defenceless woman, while her kids look on just beggars belief. With a baseball bat too....
I am curious though. I wonder what reason they had? What she did to warrant them doing this....
Nothing excuses it of course, they're absolute subhuman scum. :(

Sounds like another job for a dickie judge to handout another 3 year suspended sentence. because of one reason or another.

But there must be something else here than meets the eye for this to happen. Was anything stolen or were drugs involved etc.

Being a Manchester lad stories like this are all to common to me, and I cannot begin to understand motives and reason behind these cases.

I have been held at gun point in Manchester for my car and by god they took the car, not even a doubt in my mind I would try and stop them.

I feel for the woman but I am not oblivious to the things that go on in Manchester and there is allways nine times out of ten a reason for this type of attack.

Sad i know.

Maybe there is "some reasoning" behind this attack, but for the life of me I cannot understand why they would go on a rampage like this :shrug:

I have just made some excuse for scumbags beating the crap outta a woman in front of her kids! this is sad conditioning of todays society where the attacker has to be felt sorry for, because they had a tough childhood or what every.........
Its just not on.
Not a hanging offence, by any means...........just "drawn and quartered" will suffice
 
There was a similar story such as this earlier this year (when I was on holidays in Cyprus - August time) - but with guys instead of ladies, and another significant difference was that this one ended in murder... it seemed like a crazy case of a madman acting pathetically. The story goes...

A man was killed while washing windows on his home. A man pulled up in a van outside his house, beckoned him down, then stabbed him in the neck - thus killing him. The story was posted in the papers almost as carte blanch as this, and everyone thought the killer was a mindless thug who deserved everything he had coming to him. As it turned out, the guy who stabbed and thus killed the other guy, had a 14 yr old daughter who had nearly died from the use of a drug. Apparently the guy who was stabbed, had been the one dealing this chaps daughter the drugs and caused her to almost die.

No, of course he didn't deserve to be stabbed and killed, but he was a drug dealing scumbag.

I sort of agree. But a drug dealing scumbag can only be that, if there are people willing to buy their drugs.

edited to say - why blame the drug dealer when the people are quite happy to buy it. Yes drugs are illegal and do ruin lives but if no-one bought them they wouldnt have a business and there wouldnt be this problem. They supply to demand, and thats the simple matter of it.
 
Well drugs are bought because theyre heavily addictive, hence their very nature.
But this isnt a debate about the merits of drug dealers ;)

Like has said, there must be more to this story than has been reported.
Whatever reasoning there is, no kid should ever have to witness his mother being beaten with a baseball bat by two men, whether she's a drug dealer, murderer, grass, peddler of child porn or common garden theif.
 
This is the law of the jungle and the street Bod -the real underbelly of society - it's the way too many people have to live these days and we're doing b****r all about it!

Of course it's wrong, but this pond life isn't constrained by the same values as the rest of us.

Awful as this is, this attack smacks of being personal, and if that's the case, then this woman has a good idea who's responsible or who's behind it, but I bet she hasn't told the cops. And so it goes on.:shrug:

My upbringing has left me seeing this sort of thing on a regular basis. Not this particular incident, but this sort of life.
 
There may not be anything more to this story. We wish that there was some explanation for the attack, because we cannot comprehend why people would just attack somebody so brutally, we need a reason.

There will probably be some reasoning behind it, but it is not guaranteed.

As CT said, the woman probably knows who these scum are. No doubt their argument wasn't even with her but a member of her family. This would have been done to show they meant business.

Thankfully I don't know any of this kind of lowlife, but am not so naive I don't know they exist.

I would bet money that this happens less "these days" than it used to—certainly not more, anyway.

We hear about it more often, sure, and we hear about it on a national rather than a local scale, but I really don't think it's a product of modern times.

Cue the "we used to leave our door wide open when I were a lad and people used to come in and tidy the house rather than steal things" brigade... :p
 
We have discussed this kind of atrocity before but how do we as a people stop it, whoever we vote for of any political colour makes no difference, so seriously, do we turn vigilante and become lynch mobs, then that only turns us into the kind of sub humans we oppose, so what do we do?

Yep! and I am gonna upset a few here I bet when I say,
I have seen it all go down hill, and I am sure that it dates back to the "removal" of the cane ( slipper / ruler whatever) from school.
I will freely admit that I got a caning for, well, never mind :D,
But I never did "that" or anything again!

Likewise, it certainly was a sharp shock and reminder that a certain type of behaviour is unnaceptable.

I heard about this too on North West tonight and Manchester Evening news. Absolutely sickening.

I too agree that this goes on a lot - and more so than it used - to in my eyes.

Just to stir up the discussion further ..... the above comments about caning ..... could it not be argued that this then teaches children if they do wrong, it is ok to hit them with a large stick?

Replace the word 'children' with the word 'man/woman' and the word 'cane' with 'baseball bat' and you're back to sqaure one!

Not necessarilly my thoughts, opinions or viewpoints - but I can see a counter arguement there!!

For what it's worth, I always got the slipper or a clip round the idea if I did wrong as a kid, and I'd like to think I have grown up with a good set of morals!

Yeah I saw this new item to. Was disgusted. I live in Prestwich and there is a lot of regeneration going on around the area. This is good. BUT there is more and more crime being reported muggings, car jackings, etc.....We are thinking of upping sticks as my self and wife do not feel to safe walking around anymore!
 
Whatever she has done (and there must be something) it doesnt deserve a thrashing in front of her children, They will be scarred for the rest of their lives the poor buggers..:bang:

Indeedy - remember the case of the mob who beat up a guy a while back after they learned he was a pedaphile. He was actually a paediatrician!

How do you do that though, when the kids growing up now are the offspring of parents who weren't controlled as kids.

This problem stills back years !
 
Kill em all and let god sort em out :D

OR

Punish the parents who demonstrate a lack of thought and consideration for others (dunno how though), THEN teach them to instil it into their children.

Failing that....Cattle prods and scally sticks :D
