Aargh! My little D60 just died

Just got home and was going to do a night shoot around Cambridge.

Turned D60 on and its borked. The LCD screen flashes on briefly and is stripped horizontal grey and white. It was fine yesterday,

Looks like it'll still take shots, but not write to SD card.

Obviously it'll need to return to the Mothership at Nikon UK, but has anyone seen or heard of this before.

I'm gutted I wub :love: my little D60 :'(:'(
 
at least you have your d700, 5dmk2 and the rest :P
 
But I like my D60..!

Looks like it will still take shots actually, it IS writing to SDCard but the card access light no longer comes on.

Still a bit of a git though :(

Can't do much, a LOT of the D60 is done on the rear LCD. No top LCD panel. Don't think I can even change AF settings on the body (can do ISO as its assigned to my Func button)

Doesn't appear to be a way to reset it, I've pulled the battery, SD card and lens, but its knackered! Arse.
 
Apparently Purdy's is having a sale, you might be able to find a replacement there cheaply......:lol:

Puddleduck, there is a three button reset, but not sure It'll help ??? Look for buttons with the green dots ....

OK, that might have fixed it. I've popped a fresh charged battery in there, and the LCD is back, but flickering a bit.

I did the reset and it looks like it was "rebooting" (do these cameras have boot loaders?, took about 7 seconds to come back up), if anyone can remember how ZX Spectrums used to load up, well the screen and white lines on the LCD were moving just like that.

I'm going to leave a battery out for a bit then put a freshly charged one in.... fingers crossed.. thanks Dr Adam :)
 
It might be worth reloading the firmware in if you cant get i back 100% in any other way

Its still dead. The screen is back but its flickering and far too bright, with bright white interlaced strips moving down the screen.

I can see the LCD and short term I can live with it, but its kaput.
 
has it ever had the firmware updated, it might be a known problem fixed in a later firmware update
 
Have you tried a Google search to see if there's any fixes etc. for this particular model? It may be a common problem..
 
had a similar problem with my d300 but that was a duff cf card so the only thing i would say is try with a different card and see if it makes a difference?
 
By any chance, even a remote chance, do you think water (from rain, or excessive condensation) may have leaked into the internal body?

What you're describing is almost exactly what happened with my D200 .. it died s..l..o..w..l..y until it just wouldn't start-up.

Sorry to be negative, but it doesn't look good from what I'm reading.
 
Right I *think* I've fixed it (or rather worked around it)

The D60 has a sensor above the LCD that toggles the LCD On or Off when your eye goes to the viewfinder. However its a bit unreliable so I usually have it turned Off. For some reason it was On..

Anyhow I've disabled this and it seems OK...

I *think* the eye sensor was rapidly blanking and unblacking the LCD, as if the eye sensor had become "jammed" - like it was sending rapid on-off-on-off signals to the LCD causing it to go nuts.

Its been OK now for 10 minutes with it turned off....
 
Never understood why they put that there, the screen goes off as soon as you half press the shutter anyway...
 
I hope it's sorted out, it's not a nice feeling knowing one of your "kids" needs medical attention.

Think its OK now (touch wood) my D60 I got when it first came out and it seems to have some older firmware on it, but I don't recall Nikon ever releasing an update?

I'll see if I can get them to mail me the latest firmware.. they usually huff and puff about this on Consumer cameras!
 
Checked Nikon site lately ;)
 
Andy, I think I would cry if my d60 went wrong mate. I love that little work a day cam.

Me too, no way would I walk around Cambridge with a D700 for example after dark, but with a D60 its so titchy no one bats an eyelid :)
 
Just the excuse you need to replace with a D3X then:)
