hi guys. last night i went to see biffy clyro at the o2 arena in leeds. i love taking rock pictures but was refused entry because my lumix was to big! it wasnt as ive used it at other venues. can you suggest a compact camera i can take with me that is going to give me great shots with live bands that is simple to use and will be allowed in! i cant tell you how mad i was, made even more frustrating that a guy three seats up had a bigger camera than mine. my lumix is the gf2 model. Has anyone else had this problem? thanks guys
 
I don't tend too go too arena stuff personally but surprised you got turned away with likes of a GF2 did you have a big lens on it ?
 
no big lens, and have used it at so many different venues it really did put a dampener on the night. Felt very intiminated by staff and am making a complaint but its not the point i missed some great shots.
 
Yes i could imagine it wouldn't put you in best mood if beforehand your after being hassled for the taking the likes of a GF2 which are only small cameras really,
The E-PM1 and GF3 are smaller still but id expected same person be just be same attitude against them too.. You could always tried put a body cap on the GF2 and put the lens in a bag or inside pocket next time too make it smaller still looking i suppose :thinking:

So what were the rules governing photography equipment on the night?
 
It all depends on a few things, the venue, the performer and the attitude of the doorman (and, to a smaller extent, you. Flutter your eyelashes and be polite and it could work wonders; get a bit stroppy and you'l get less preferential treatment).

Not sure if a Fujifilm HS30 would be allowed in, non interchangeable lens which zooms from 24mm to 720mm and has impressed me over the past couple of days since I bought mine. Even takes HD video should you want it to.
 
Slightly off topic, but did you end up going home or leaving the camera somewhere?

They had restrictions at Wembley for the Olympic football, so I didn't bring my gear, but when I was in there a lot of people had the DSLRs out... sometimes I think I worry too much, but then I hear stories like this
