AA batteries with BG-E3

I just got my BG-E3, 2nd hand but seems like it was never used since it was all still wrapped and boxed.

Anyway, it came with the thing where you can use 6 AA's. Im wondering if there would be any problems with having the batteries in there long term so they are ready to go if I ever need it. Or should I leave the batteries out until I need to use it?

I leave them in mine but check for battery leakage periodically...

I think if they were connected you might lose a bit of charge after a while, I think that is...
