If anyone is interest there will be an A380 airbus flying through Edinburgh Airport. Details are on Edinburgh Airport website : http://www.edinburghairport.com/

It should fly through at 1:40pm. It will come in as if it's going to land but then take off again.

I'm off to research some good spots for photo's. It will fit in perfectly with a college assignment I have.

Any suggestions for a good spot?

Hi,

You, and I and lots of other people , will need to work out which way the prevailing wind will be on Saturday in order to determine a good spot. As I understand it, aircraft almost always land flying into the wind if they can as that allows more control of the aircraft. (Any experts, feel free to correct me if that's wrong.)

Ingleston showground on the south side of the runway is a good spot if they are approaching from the west. The north side of the runway may be better if approaching from the east. I don't know how to get to the north side though. The south side is easy.

Regards...
Steve

I don't mind if it's taking off or landing to be honest. Can you get into the Ingleston showground easily enough? We could sit on the car roof...

the route for descending into edinburgh airport is over firth of forth and cramond. they take off across newbridge, unless there is work being done to the runway then the planes take off/land in the opposite direction. a good spot is anywhere between cammo and ingliston.

That's blown it ;), I've been sitting on this for days hoping to have the place to myself!

Since the aircraft is not actually landing at EDI the wind direction will be academic. I suspect it will make its approach over the Forth so that it will be seen in north Edinburgh.

Last time I looked (Saturday) Ingliston was full of Moscow State Circus trucks, so it might be awkward to get in there, I'll try and check again.

Another good spot is the footbridge over Newbridge roundabout, from there you can see right down the runway.

Cool, thanks. I think I want to head across that railway line. I've seen lots of dog walkers on that path when i've been on the train so it must be accessible.

also due Prestwick ~2.00PM.
Strangely seems to be avoiding Glasgow

Thought this thread was going to be about a new Sony A380 on sale at Edinburgh airport

Not surprisingly forecast for Saturday is light rain, may give Cramond/Cammo a go if rain not too heavy.

As opposed to the heavy rain we have at the moment. If wet, I can watch from my house :D

Its a pity Edinburgh Airport did away with the viewing gallery. I think I'm in Aberdeen when its due so I'll miss it. If wind does come into it, the prevaling wind nearly always blows from the west so it will most probably come in from the east right enough.
I always thought that they landed into a headwind to help reduce the speed relative to the ground to make landing easier?
Anyone seen the 747 200 parked next to the old runway? Any idea whose it is and what its doing there?

Any good suggestions for picture spots for the visits to BHX on Saturday & Wednesday.;)

Isn't that called a 'touch and go'?

That's blown it ;)

Not that I will be in the area, I think aircraft will still do a touch and go into the wind. Unless there are local restrictions and aircarft always fly in the same direction/runway.

Hi All,
Newby here, the wind direction forcasted for saturday is SW so the A380 should make an approach onto runway 24 coming in over the forth.
As the aircraft is doing an approach and go the best place my be at or near the Railway Bridge at Lennymuir, where you will get an unobstructed view of it's approach.
If you go into Ingliston car park there is now a large mound which gives views over the fence, but get there early there are a lot of Edinburgh regulars who will be there from early morning.

Happy shooting

Ray.

If you go through Kirkliston and head east along the north side of the airport you come to a small bridge next to a vehicle access gate you should get picks landing and takeoff as for myself I can see the runway from my bedroom window but a next doors tree is causing a problem
Im off to get petrol for the chainsaw.

I should have read the link first:bonk: , i now know its not actually landing .
Och well i supose the patio doors will rattle a bit if its a noisy aircraft:nuts:.

Bronikon,
If in the unlikely event the sun does shine on Saturday, shooting from Kirkliston at that time of day may cause some backlighting.

Ray.

Well worth a visit surely, just need to try and get the right locaton and hope the weather is better than today.....

The 380's destination for the day is the family day at the Airbus plant in flintshire where it's wings are made. The Vulcan is due to perform there too :)

Light rain his morning, very overcast, not ideal

All aircraft land and take off into wind, it does not make any difference if work is being done on the runway or not. They use the wind to assist take off and to slow them down when they land.

some pics i have taken of the Farnborough Air Show 2008 with my D80 with kit lens :( the A380 is in there somewhere. The video was made by my son

Great set Glenn. We were down at Ratho on the bridge. I was surprised it wasn't too busy. Didn't get many great shots, it was my first attempt at planes but will post my efforts shortly and hopefully get some tips.
