I'm looking to start printing on A3 and have been looking in my local PC World (I know before you all cry out!) to see what there is in terms of price and build quality. I noted 4 there (The most expensive around £230) but cannot find any reviews (Even on the 'DP Review' website).
The models I looked at were:
Epson EPS 15000W
Brother LC1280XL
Canon iX6550
HP7500a Wide Format (Which is more of an MFD)
I'm currently using an HP Photosmart 8150 which I have been very happy with but is only an A4 and the inks are now getting hard to source at a decent price.
In terms of needs I want to be able to produce clear prints of my pictures from 10 x 15 up to A3 borderless, so I'm looking for a high resolution (In B&W and Colour). I want to be able to frame these pictures so a long lasting ink on paper is essential (Hence why I've been using HP up until now). I also produce a lot of B&W and HDR images so a good reproduction of tonal range is another essential. With regards to size - the printers I saw in the shop are of a suitable, and similar, area footprint to the my current A4 model (My printer is on a shelf above a twin monitor system).
Finally I need a decent price and ink cost to the needs above ratio (Goes without saying, naturally). I don't mind paying a little more than high street prices but it would have to be an exceptional printer with a decently price ink range available for the next few years.
I would be interested in hearing from anyone in the UK using the above models, or who has a good alternative to those, or anyone that can direct me to some user review threads or sites. Unfortunately the shop no longer appears to have a booklet featuring actual prints made from the printer like they used to do (although I suspect that may have been a legal issue).
Thanks
Richard
