Hi does anybody use the A200 if so do u know of any sources of info regarding the camera I am new to photography and struggling to take any decent photos

I started with an A200, and now have it as a backup / second body with the A700 as my main camera.

For specific questions on the Sony Alphas there is a dedicated thread here, or check out one of the sites specifically for Sony Alpha users such as Dynax digital or Dyxum.

For info on using the camera (controls and what they do) then you might want to grab a pdf of the friedman archives alpha200 guide, which explains everything in a helpful manner.

What particular problems are you having?
What sort of shots are you trying to take?
I assume you have the standard 18-70 kit lens.

Yeah I am using the standard lens it came with do u recommend any other lenses . I am taking shots of scenery but the colours seem to be dull and blurry I also like to take close up shots but can't do them with the A200 I have to use my nv11 for them. I have taken around 300 shots with my A200 and only like 1 so I am starting to get frustrated.

I use an a200 and its fine for close ups if you get the gear right for it, if you look at my flickr all those are from using one.

It might be an idea to post some of the images you've taken perhaps it might give us some indication if there's a problem.

I guess you got the camera second hand (since it's an old model), it may be that someone left some odd settings on it. Unless you have set specific things yourself, try a reset (Menu, Setup Menu, Section 3, Reset Default.) this will put it back to a standard set of parameters, which should give reasonable results.

The Lens you have will only focus on things 38cm (or further) away from the camera - if you try to get close up's by going closer than this it will be unable to focus, this may be the problem you are finding (this is actually a reasonable distance for a basic DSLR lens, proper close up 'macro' lenses cost over £300).

I have the A700 and I used to think that the kit lens (18 - 70) lacked contrast, but it was never blurry.
If you have a manual, then give it a good read. Maybe try another lens on it, if you can borrow one. You may have to buy a lens, and I would recommend the Minolta lenses from the mid 80's, which had good optics and were built like tanks.
You may have to post a few shots, and also give people an idea of how much photographic experience you have. The blurry pictures could be down to camera shake, something which could be cured by using higher shutter speeds in conjunction with higher ISO to compensate.

Though be wary of raising the ISO on an A200 too high - 400 will be fine, but 800 can get quite noisy.
