I have found out today that I have a week's holiday to take before Christmas, so I now have next week to use for valuable photography time :D

I am looking for ideas for places to visit around the North of England - I live in Leeds and, with my little car and my camera, I plan to travel around to some of the places I don't normally get chance to visit.

Hopefully the weather won't be as poor as it has been today, although the snow will help with certain pics!

Donna Nook on East Coast?

best time of year to go but you need to go at the weekend as during the week its a bombing range.

Manchester :) Christmas markets, numerous museums, lots of wild outdoor places local too!

Fountains Abbey and Studley just outside Ripon are a good option, especially if you get frost or snow. It's National Trust so bring your card if you're a member.;)

Knaresborough is very photogenic especially with it's viaduct and castle ruins - again even more so if it frost or snow covered.

York and it's Minster and roman walls offer plenty of opportunities

If landcape's your thing and your get clear wintry days then Sutton Bank offers superb views of the Vale of York. It's on the A170 from Thirsk to Helmsley (it's where the famous White Horse is carved into the hillside)

North Yorkshire Moors railway from Pickering to Grosmont offers opportunities for atmospehric B&W shots of steam engines.

RAF Leeming just off the A1 south of Leeming Bar gives you a few aviation based options if that's your thing. 100 Squadron Hawks are based there.

There's the East Coast (Whitby, Filey, Scarborough, Bridlington, Flamborough Head).

Further North you have the Northumbrian coast with Dunstanburgh Castle, Holy Island etc.

Hadrians Wall

Hope that helps. Enjoy your time up here and be sure to post your results.

Hi i'm a newbie from the north and suggest Barnard Castle and the surrounding area is stunning - there is the Bowes Museum and Grounds, head out towards the dales and you have High Force and of course the castle itself in the town. It's a good base and something to see in every direction. There is some stunning views in this area. Hope you have a good time where ever you go.
