Yes
Just to warn you all of you who may be using crop cameras and haven't really tried full frame properly.

It is dangerous, and will take your photography/gear addiction to another level.

That is all.

:bang: :bang: :bang: :bang:

Is it possible to get therapy? I think I caught something playing with a 5dII :(

ha ha, what did you try.

Well, until now I was very happy with my 60D.

And then I bought a 1Ds quite recently, which regrettably will have to be moved on due to financial difficulties. (Student life.......)

100% vf has spoilt me so badly. And the DOF. Not to mention the build quality.

(gasps for breath :bonk:)

So does this mean you're going to stick with your recent purchase?:D ...ahh..never mind I can now see you've decided to sell it

I know exactly what you mean. I recently got a D700 and now I'd love an 85mm f1.4 and a FF wide angle and a 1.7TC. The shopping list never ends.

Similar story here! Got the D700, and 24-70, and 70-200.....And i said that was going to be it! How wrong was I? :gag:

Forgot about buying CF cards....a grip :bang:

But now I'm the same as Rob, i'm dying to get an 85mm 1.4 and maybe a nice wide angle....

I don't think i'd live for very long though, the missus would kill me!! :gag::cuckoo:

The thing is, I plan to go 5D mk1 when I can financially but the 100% viewfinder was so good I'm not sure I'll be able to go back to 96% :'(

Also the build quality was actually breathtaking... I now actually understand why people care whether their camera is made out of magnesium or not.....! (I'm one of them now)

Oh dear oh dear oh dear. :gag:

Took me right into med format via FF Canon. Very addictive stuff

Me too straight into medium format digital, which is just way too sexy. (and expensive)

dont ever 'try' full frame. I 'tried' full frame in a shop... it ruined me for a few weeks, then i bought the 5dII. and my my its amazing!

recent 5Dmk2 purchase here and i can confirm FF is noice.

(although the shutter noise could do with man'ing up a bit coming from a 1D and 20D :D)

i wasnt aware the 60D wasnt mag until you said that, wonder why they stopped that after the 50D..

the d300 produce awsome pics but the d700 is just something else.

Scott, have you got any like for like examples of this you could post? I mean same subject composition but one from D300 and the other from D700 - adjusted just for field of view of course and straight from camera.

I have been sitting on the fence for ages now about making the move to FF - but reading this thread has made me think I should fall over into the FF side!
(Secretly holding out for 'D800' but bored waiting now!)

I've obviously had a search on the web for this (possibly not very well!) but I can find some great shots from both the D300 and D700 but no direct comparisons! Could you direct me to a suitable site?

Thanks.

Dont do what I did then....start retouching medium format files...your own never look the same after that

I'm quite happy with APS-C too.

With APS-C and 4/3 you can use smaller and lighter lenses at wider apertures and faster shutter speeds. Plus you get an inbuilt flash.

I did used to think that the day Canon made a full frame camera with the features that I want I'd buy it but actually I think they've missed their chance to get my full frame money now.

To be honest I think its photography in general that we all need therapy for......

Expensive and addictive :bonk:

1.6, 1.3 then FF.
And now I'm looking at getting a 400mm lens, oh dear ................
I just hope the 400 is long enough on the FF :)

Matt

I guess it is to make more of a jump from the X0D range to the 7D.

If you can deal with manual focus, grab a Samyang 85/1.4 and let the good times roll :)

Don't take it personally but I'm pretty sure me and manual focus would never get on together. I'm sold on the idea of having AF on all my lenses.....especially when trying to shoot wide open at f1.4.

Strange. I've gone from full frame back to crop and am happy with my decision

Well, you are focusing on wildlife, where longer lenses / more crop is an advantage. So nothing strange there at all.

For landscapes and portraits FF wins. The ease of working with a large VF is a bonus, and large pixels create much better colours and record more information than a crop cameras. I can certainly push FF files well beyond 40D/50D range without any obvious loss of IQ...

That bug is dangerous though. I am now seriously thinking about 16-35mm, and at some stage 1Ds mk3 (for which to happen Canon will need to release mkIV, and prices would need to come down, or my income - up). 5DII just doesn't get my excited somehow.

I went full frame (D700) because of it's amazing high ISO abilities. At the time (Jan 2009) it was as good as you'd get apart from the D3. If there'd have been a DX format camera that was as good I'd have saved myself a ton of money, as it was the D7000 took another 2 years to come out and I don't know if it's on a par with the D700's high ISO ability. I'd consider going back to DX when the D700 wears out, I've no emotional attachment to the format.

All I see here is the bizarre fascination on this forum for full frame cameras! I don't want or need one, apart from the film cameras I have. If you think kit will fix your photos then you are sadly mistaken! ;)

Well, yes and no. Film is not really a relevant part of the equation. For me and many others on here, the quality of FF comes from the better sensors on FF (larger, sharper pixels, with more dynamic range, exposure latitude and far less noise). Film just doesn't cut it even against cheaper APS-C digital cameras, sorry.

An expensive [FF] camera also makes you think more about your photography and how the pro gear is used. It is certainly a good driver for improvement, even if it doesn't do it by itself. If you were given a hasselblad you would probably think of something special to shoot with it.

We could talk similarly about cars as well. There are Clio's and polo's and there are better ones like passat or A6. All of the (well mostly) can get you from A to B, and perhaps even back.

you are only lying to yourself... you know you want one :-)

Nope. A lot of people here are lying to themselves that one would improve their photography! ;)
