A telescope to Lens converter

Matt it might. It depends on what fittings are on your dads scope. What is your dads scope, and I'll dig you out links to what you need.

My dads scope is a spotting scope. It is 60mm. THat is all I can tell you. It doesnt have anymore infomation on it :(

Is the eyepiece fixed in place ? If so you won't be able to attach the 400d at prime focus of the spotter. You could go afocal, but the vignetting will be appalling. Afocal is pointing the camera with it's lens in place at the exit lens of the fitted eyepiece. The problem is the relative small diameter of the exit lens (more importantly the exit pupil, which is the diameter of the exiting light) compared to the much larger objective lens of the 400d. This always assumes that you'll be able to bring the camera to focus, the working distance is going to be pretty short for ideal focus (eye relief of the eyepiece), normally 10 to 20 mm ish.

The 60mm, is going to be the aperture of the scope (the objective diameter).

I've not been able to find anything specific on that. Ok, now (what's the easiest way..) What's the size of the hole in the spotter and the length of the eyepiece barrel that fits in. Is it smooth, notched or has bayonets ?

Hi Matt,
No, this wont connect a camera to a telescope. It is a T mount adaptor to use with a rather old style of lens fitting, called T mount lenes strangley enough.
For really solid advice on putting cameras on telescopes contact SRB http://www.srbfilm.co.uk/ or LCE in Winchester 01962 866203

Just had a quick look at the adapter again and realised I had overlooked Mead Astro 'scopes, which do have a T mount on them in addition the the eye peice. I assume you are refering to a terestrial scope (bird watching etc) in which case my original note above is valid. If you do have an astro scope, esp the Mead, the BCF can help you http://www.telescopehouse.com/acatalog/about_us.html

For virtually all Astro scopes, you will need a T mount adapter to connect the camera at prime focus. Whether you then need additional adapters like a 1.25" or 2" nosepiece will depend on the focuser attached to the scope. My Konus Vista requires the use of a 1.25" nosepiece, whilst the C80ED has T threads on the end of the focuser drawtube, although I've been using the 1.25" nosepiece to date.

Matt, how does the eyepiece connect to that Pearl scope ? I may have found a way of doing this afocal admittedly... but...
