A positive story from the bowels of Ebay!

I know we are all quick enough to complain when things go tits up,
and occasionally praise when thing go right.
This is one such story.

Are you sitting comfortably? Then I shall begin.
If you have a low attention span,
Or get bored easily,
then click away now.

For the last few weeks I have been resurrecting a pond that was filled in about 4-5 years ago.
(an even longer and boring story)

I got to the stage of ordering plants.
The usual oxygenators rushes / reeds etc, plus a few "of interest"
Bladder Wort Utricularia spp. and a pitcher plant Sarraceniaceae (North american Spp.) to name a couple.
That'll teach the damned mossie's to play in my patch!

I also wanted a lily, well who doesn't?
Instead of the usual "Nymphaea"
I wanted something slightly different so I opted for the "brandy bottle" Nuphar lutea
Which are actually a native species.
Cue in Abbeymere on that there auction site.

After a week and "no show" (They claim 2 day delivery)
I started a dialogue with them.
Now, it wasn't my intention to raise a case against them, but it seemed the only way to contact them
through the correct channels.

After a few exchanges, it seems that actually they were "very low on stock"
and were having trouble sourcing the Corme.

A few more exchanges, and a couple of days later, of expressing dismay at the fact that they were advertising
something they didn't have,
I said that if it really was an issue then I would accept a "red water lily" Nymphaea 'Pygmaea Rubra'
in its place.

These are similar in some respects. Small flowers and as the name suggests, red in colour,

rather than the yellow "butter cup" type of the Nuphar lutea.

The following day I received the "brandy bottle" corme
with a few shoots. Cool :)
Also an apology, "please pick something from our stock list FOC"
Very kind I though, most generous.

I had a browse through and settled on the 4 water hawthorn bulbs.
Aponogeton Distachyos
The reason being was that they flower late in the season, and hopefully through some of the winter too,
after the Lily, was "sleeping."
The following day the Nymphaea 'Pygmaea Rubra'
turned up SD!

And an email saying the Hawthorn was in the post!
Now not wanting to take advantage of the situation, I offered to return the Nymphaea 'Pygmaea Rubra'

Abbeymere declined!

The very next day 6 Aponogeton Distachyos bulbs arrived, (Again SD)
instead of the 4 advertised on the stock list.

I think that is all very much above and beyond keeping the customer satisfied!

I doubt very much they will read this, but I just had to share :)

Absolutely :)

Awwww a happy snake means less bans for us... :D

@MWHCVT
'scuse the images crap phone camera.

What a bloody mess!
Every time I tried to dig (Excavate) the hole it rained!
Clay soil doesn't drain that well :(
It took days to get beyond this stage!

Finally drained and almost there!

Yay! in with the liner and a few pints of water.
(Glad I'm not on a water meter :D)

Looking better already :)

Patio down, home made trickle filter / vegie filter now maturing

Looking good Chris, all that is needed now is some fish and a bench and your there :P though I assume you need to give it some time before the fish...I do love a good pond :D

Though talking of fish did you see those photos recently of the fish in a Bangkok mall :P

A bench is in the planning stage. I'm not sure yet whether to build or buy one.
As for fish there have been 4 "sacrificial" goldfish in there for nearly 2 weeks,
in an effort to kick start the nitrogen cycle.
It seems it started with a vengeance the other night, following a hell of a storm where the water level
went up 2 inches. And the algae decided to bloom!

The four fish BTW are alive and well :)
(but are only about 3 inches, so put your damned rods away :p)

Isn't it just, I love the fact Mother Nature always takes over in the end :D

As to the fish don't worry, no rod licence right now anyway...we re did our pond last year after several years of neglect...I'll be honest I went a little OTT on the fish front...having been given a budget I just walked round and was like I want that one...that one...two of those...etc well you get the idea that ended up with me finishing up at 3 pounds within budget and with 68 fish in the boot

Really was a kid in a sweet shop

LOL thats not bad going :D
I hope its a big pond though !

Reasonable size, it's between 2-4 deep, as its stepped with a two foot deep edge and a 4 foot deep centre, and it's oval about 7-8 foot wide and maybe 15 foot long so a reasonable size

Excuse the crap photo

Cool :) Nice size :)

Cool :) Nice size :)

My dad dug it out years ago..it's got a second pond/marsh area above it to act line a natural filter bed to accompany a big filter box...I can spend hours down there :D...we also have a smaller pond at the back of the garage too but that's literally just for frogs these days..

Yeah we are a little pond mad, I'd have a big fish tank too if I could get away with it

Sounds really good :)
And I can't argue with the fact that you are pond mad either :D

I don't know if I'm pond mad or fish mad :suspect: but I don't mind, that said if I could get a digger into the garden I'd probably have a small lake just for the hell of it

LOL Matt.

here is me testing my underwater camera at my mates house, he has some whacking fish.
Cool :)
Now there's a thought I have a small one too, I'll wait until the water clears "properly"
and give it a go.
