A positive story from the bowels of Ebay!
I know we are all quick enough to complain when things go tits up,
and occasionally praise when thing go right.
This is one such story.
Are you sitting comfortably? Then I shall begin.
If you have a low attention span,
Or get bored easily,
then click away now.
For the last few weeks I have been resurrecting a pond that was filled in about 4-5 years ago.
(an even longer and boring story)
I got to the stage of ordering plants.
The usual oxygenators rushes / reeds etc, plus a few "of interest"
Bladder Wort Utricularia spp. and a pitcher plant Sarraceniaceae (North american Spp.) to name a couple.
That'll teach the damned mossie's to play in my patch!
I also wanted a lily, well who doesn't?
Instead of the usual "Nymphaea"
I wanted something slightly different so I opted for the "brandy bottle" Nuphar lutea
Which are actually a native species.
Cue in Abbeymere on that there auction site.
After a week and "no show" (They claim 2 day delivery)
I started a dialogue with them.
Now, it wasn't my intention to raise a case against them, but it seemed the only way to contact them
through the correct channels.
After a few exchanges, it seems that actually they were "very low on stock"
and were having trouble sourcing the Corme.
A few more exchanges, and a couple of days later, of expressing dismay at the fact that they were advertising
something they didn't have,
I said that if it really was an issue then I would accept a "red water lily" Nymphaea 'Pygmaea Rubra'
in its place.
These are similar in some respects. Small flowers and as the name suggests, red in colour,
rather than the yellow "butter cup" type of the Nuphar lutea.
The following day I received the "brandy bottle" corme
with a few shoots. Cool
Also an apology, "please pick something from our stock list FOC"
Very kind I though, most generous.
I had a browse through and settled on the 4 water hawthorn bulbs. Aponogeton Distachyos
The reason being was that they flower late in the season, and hopefully through some of the winter too,
after the Lily, was "sleeping."
The following day the Nymphaea 'Pygmaea Rubra'
turned up SD!
And an email saying the Hawthorn was in the post!
Now not wanting to take advantage of the situation, I offered to return the Nymphaea 'Pygmaea Rubra'
Abbeymere declined!
The very next day 6 Aponogeton Distachyos bulbs arrived, (Again SD)
instead of the 4 advertised on the stock list.
I think that is all very much above and beyond keeping the customer satisfied!
I doubt very much they will read this, but I just had to share
