Hi I'm looking to get myself a camera bag but there's so many options out there on the web and you don't get a sense of scale with the pictures etc.

Primarily it's got to be big enough to hold 2 bodies, 3 lenses, 1 or 2 flashguns, maybe a tri-pod and the various bit and bobs (cards, cloths, batteries etc.)

Could anyone recommend a bag with the above in mind?..... preferably one in a rucksack style?

I use a Tamrac 6X. They are made in numerous sizes to suit, but I warn you if you fill even a 6X, you won't enjoy carrying it far.:)

Thanks Yellowbelly, is it a weight thing?

I've been looking at the tamracs, they're not bad. Not as expensive as lowepro (who's prices I can't understand/justify)

i have a SlingShot AW Series great bit of kit ,

What lenses have you got? Don't want to recommend a bag for you to receive it and your gear doesn't all fit.

Do they differ much in price - like for like ?

I actually think Tamrac are better than Lowepro in terms of build quality based on the ones I've had / have.

I've got a 50mm, a 70-120 2.8 and an 18-105 DX. The bodies are a D3 and D7000.

I've scoured various sites but you don't get a true sense of size from the images, you certainly don't get a feel for how they function. I certainly can't get a sense of how big versions across different brands are.

I'd like the bag big enough to keep my kit in permanently, but for it to be also relatively portable- I'm still reasonably young fit and agile so it doesn't have to be mega lightweight etc.

Thanks hotshots, I had a look at that bag and it's awesome. A bit too top heavy pricewise for me though at present :-)

I've got a Tamrac Expedition 9x and it takes 2 gripped bodies, a couple of flashes and 6 or 7 lenses. It doesn't have a problem carrying all that, morre likely it's me with the problem carrying it. At a guess the 5 or 6 would be plenty big enough and they are very well made bags. I'm on my 3rd bag now and they've all been Tamrac, excellent quality and very big inside.

I am using Case Logic SLR Camera Sling Backpack - SLRC-205 Black, good quality, does the job. but mostly everybody have their own needs and equipment :)

The bags are very good indeed, but because they swallow so much kit, they can get seriously heavy. Still comfy to carry, but heavy!

I think that would easily fit in my Kata 222-UL, and you'll have your day pack storage as well :)

Try petrol DSLR bags they seem quite versatile and compact

I don't want to part with much more than about 80 beans on a bag, because.......... it's a bag and I begrudge paying it.

I laugh at people who have thousands in kit, yet seem to think a bag is just a bag, and therefore shouldn't cost more than a ha'penny and thruppence.
A D3 and D7000, and you're quibbling over spending a few more quid?

First link in my previous reply above - £110 for the Alpha L, and a review of the Alpha a local member bought on my suggestion.

If that's not going to sway you, then how about this - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121064370367
There's one in the classifieds here for £55 delivered, but you'll not be able to access it until you've been a member for 2 months and posted more than 25 comments.

Thanks PJ S, I know what you mean it does sound daft, I might have to stop being a tight wad- I'd only probably use the bag on occasion, the rest of the time my gear stops at home.

I've heard that there is some decent gear in the classified section, but I've got to wait as you say.

I'll look into the Alpha L, thanks.

Do you have a need to take it as aircraft carryon?

This somewhat limits your options.

I purchased a Lowepro ProRunner 350AW (needed the laptop compartment) that I'm happy with apart from some stitching going on the main straps - not sure if this is a fault which is inherent in the design (which doesn't seem braced at a key point) or if its just my bag.

If you want to go cheap, perhaps try a Kingkong from Cotswold Photography.

Hi
Have you looked at the lowepro runner 300?
Great bag. Loads of room, tough rugged build quality, built in tripod holder.
Pretty good price too.

Has anyone else got or used one of the crumplers?..... decent price and it seems to be ideal.
