A story of real grit!..

Your anorak is ready for collection sir
:D

Might forward that link to Reading Council... they clearly have no idea how it's done.

Funny how they dont use salt on the roads on the continent. Everyone must have winter tyres and snow chains.
Also funny how cars arent eaten alive by rust over there nearly as quickly.

I don't think cars have been eaten alive by rust in the UK since 1979 , they're painted much better these days

WhyTF did I click that link :bang:

you loves it!

i actually found that link whilst trying to find the temperature at which water with rock salt disolved in it freezes at to try to put some science into why most countries on the continent dont use grit instead going for winter tyres and snowploughs, i think the answer lies somewhere between the temps are too low for salt to work efficiently and because of the period of time spent under a blanket of snow and ice meaning gritting is not cost effective and an ability to just get on with it, whereas here on blightly we couldnt all drive around for 3 months of studded tyres waiting for the handful of days when we actually need them

Fair point
but all it needs is a little caution and common sense
when the white stuff arrives

Oh hang on that just wiped out half the population :D

I think Sweden has pipes running close under the surface of roads of major cities and towns. They pump hot water through which melts the snow and ice keeping the roads clear.

As for other countries, they are prepared. In the UK there are a great many drivers that have no experience driving in adverse conditions and just panic.
