I am seriously considering getting rid of all my canon gear in favour of a really good compact with good IQ.
As i see it i am just taking shots of the landscapes when we are out & about in the car.
So i think a really good compact maybe £800-£1200,all recommendations welcome.:)

The Sony RX100 V or V1 looks good:)

The Fuji X100 (several iterations!) gets rave reviews as well. Supplementary lenses are available for it should the fixed lens prove too limiting in the future.

And in between the RX100 & X100 is the Panasonic LX100/Leica D-Lux.

I think i am looking for a decent high end compact without adding any lenses to it.
I have looked at a few youtube hands on reviews,i don,t think i would look at canon again.
So far the sony looks good, still looking as i have plenty of time yet.:)

Why go compact when you could get a Pen-F ?

Don,t know that one but as i said i don,t want to have to add any lenses.:)

I'm biased but you could pick up a used Sony RX1 or RX1R within your budget and never have to compromise on image quality

Don,t know those ones,but will have a look.As i said i don,t want to add any lenses.
I think i want something with a built in zoom.
Like the sony RX 100 V1

That is the one i am leaning towards just now.:)

If size* isn’t an issue then a Sony RX10 mk1 has the same 24-200 range as the rx100(6) albeit at a constant f2.8 and undoubtedly better iq.

*it’ll still fit in the glovebox and be a fraction of the price of an rx100(6)

Will have a look at that.:)
The RX10 mk1 is too big,i want something that can go in a coat pocket.

This also is looking pretty good.
Canon PowerShot G1X Mark III Digital Camera

I have a TZ100 which is a 1" sensor compact, there's a TZ200 out now. Might be worth a look...

I know you don't want to add lenses and I suppose a lot depends on how compact you want the camera to be but I think that there's a quite a quality difference when going from 1" to MFT and if you could cope with the extra bulk of MFT maybe a LX100 as per below or even a small RF style camera and just one lens could be worth thinking about? I have a 12-35mm f2.8 which gives excellent results and a teeny tiny 14-42mm f3.5-5.6 which is good enough from wide open.

LX100...

The panasonic lumix LX100 looks good.
I don,t want anything with extra lenses

So far i have about 3 contenders that look pretty good IQ wise, but i need to check if they are recognised by my LR 6.14:)
Sony RX100 V1
Canon G1X MARK III
Panasonic Lumix LX100

I have the Sony RX100 Mk6, excellent little camera, compact, fully featured, 24-200 equiv zoom with excellent IQ.
I've also had the Mk1 and Mk4 versions, the Mk4 is excellent except the lens is only 24-70 equiv.

Yep i see the sony is not on the raw list.:(

RAW Support will come soon I imagine.
Affinity Pro supports it, although I just downloaded the trial version to try and don't like it.
I use LR and Aperture 1 but it's not supported by these yet.
I shoot RAW and jpg for now and can process the RAW files once it's supported.
Here's some pics taken with it, all ooc jpgs, the 2 of the dogs are ISO 6400.
The one of the wind gens was taken at full zoom but is post cropped a bit too.

Dunno why anyone should "hate" DNG. Sure it's an extra step and it takes time to convert the files but once they're converted I see nothing to "hate." I use it because Adobe have stopped supporting my software (CS5) but for others with supported software DNG will just be a stop gap until their software is updated.

No biggie IMO but YMMV :D

PS.
There are as far as I know some cameras that actually output DNG's.

Thank you Kiwi Paul, for me this camera is the winner in all the reviews i have looked at.:)
So maybe time to start getting busy with photos & listing all my canon gear.:D

Cheers woof woof i think i am ok with it now.:)

DPReview has some good round-ups. Click on Buying Guides in the top bar https://www.dpreview.com/

One reason for sticking with a familiar brand is it makes the learning process a lot easier ;)

I can't find a RAW converter that supports the Mk6 yet so as far as I can tell you can't even convert to DNG.
If you want to use the raw file use the terrible software that comes with the Sony cameras and export as a TIFF to edit in LR or CP1 or use Affinity Photo trial for 10 days.

Thank you hoppy:)

Thanks Kiwi Paul.:)

Cheers for that i have now decided it will be the Sony DSC-RX100M6:)

It is by far and away the best one! I saw some crops on dpreview and it out performed noticeably the competition.

It all sounds good:)

You can buy accessories for it too, screen protector, a little grip and a filter mount that sticks on the front of the lens. The Kiwifotos ones for the Mk1 - 5 do work on the Mk6 as I have one fitted but the lens is slightly smaller diameter and the excess sticky glue stuff has to be carefully wiped off with solvent and a cotton bud to prevent the lens sticking. it's for 52mm filters.

Cheers for that Paul, not sure yet if i want to add anything as i have had years of buying a lot of extra stuff, but will see.:)

Yep i will look at that when it,s time to order it.:)
