I currently own a D5100 but im thinking of upgrading to a D7000 . Say if I took a photo with my d5100 with the 18-105 lens on it and then I took the same picture with a d7000 and same lens what if any differences would I see ? would they be exactly the same or would there a slight difference in quality . I suppose it would be the same as its the same lens .
Is this an upgrade worth considering ? I would probably prefer to go to a d7100 but then its more money and ive read that the d7100 has had issues .
sorry if its a bit of daft question but just trying to understand what I can .

Don't they have the same sensor? in which case the images would be exactly the same.

The reason to upgrade is NOT better image quality but more control buttons on the body, if you feel you need them then by all means do but otherwise it's not worth it.

Don't believe everything you read !!
IMO The D7100 is a fantastic piece of kit !! and you'll have to go a long way to find a better 1.5 crop camera....

It's features : if you want hss with flash, or to use D lenses etc as the d7k has a screw focus motor' or need the u1 U2 modes
The d7k or 7.1 do most stuff

You're right. It does have the same sensor.

Is the sensor better in the d7100 is it more or less the same ?

In reality it's more or less the same.

A used D7000 is one of the bargains of the moment IMO, absolutely cracking camera that will do pretty much anything 98% of people could want and cheap cheap now. However, it is the extra controls and bold quality you are paying for, not image quality.

As above really. I went from a d3100 to a d7000 and there was no real difference in IQ - not that you'd notice anyway
