A question about Lightroom.

After trying the 30 day trial and liking the software, I've taken the plunge and bought it.

Only problem I have with it, is that it keeps on applying it's own settings when I import pictures, and ruining the lovely colours that my camera settings (Landscape, Portrait etc) have produced.

I can change it back on each image I edit, but being the lazy sort I was wondering if there's an option to import pictures 'as shot' automatically.

Any help much appreciated. :)
 
In the settings under edit you will find a check any that stops it from doing that
 
LR displays a quick conversion of the RAW which will be constantly updated as you edit. However, when the display is first created it takes several seconds. In order to spare you from staring at an empty screen until the preview is ready, LR first displays the jpeg that was embedded in the RAW file by the camera - a jpeg that was processed according to whatever the camera is set to.

When the preview finally comes on, it has been processed according to LR's defaults. The jpeg is intended to be a finished product, but the LR defaults are intended to be only a starting point for more processing of your choice, and are much more moderate than what the camera does to jpegs.

You really need a book to get anything like the full potential out of Lightroom. You can pre-set it to import files with any parameters applied you like, even if you have to create the profiles yourself. LR only mimics the camera's JPEG settings.

Scott Kelby, Martin Evening and Mat Coalson's books are good.

I picked up the Martin Evening book and say its very well written and has been extreemly helpful whilst i get to grips with LR.

I'd def recommend picking up a book :thumbs:

Scott Kelby is a good source of knowledge too, he writes in simple English but full of top tips..
 
Thanks for the help everyone. I'll be looking to get one of the books about the subject, but seeing what they cost, it'll be a s/h copy. :eek:

worth keeping an eye on amazon or google play. The LR ebooks seem to magically drop to 1p from time to time

Yeah, done that too. Good for a lot of stuff, but if you want to know everything there is tons more in a book. Also v handy when you want to do something specific, just look it up in the index.
