Just a bit concerned about someone who's just bought something I put on eBay, he's had his account since January and has bought what looks to be about 40 DSLR's since then. Some Canon, some Nikon, a few 70-200's, some Panasonic and some Olympus... everything from budget ones up to a 1Ds MKII. All in just two weeks...

Who on earth buys so many cameras in a short space of time? it seems so peculiar.

I'm worried this is some sort of scam... any ideas? I'm always wary of selling on eBay!

Check his feedback if its good dont worry about it.

Either someone setting up a little camera store and offering used goods, or someone simply buying what they think they may profit on if they get them at good prices. Doubtful it's a scammer, they'd have surely been pulled by now?

I've had someone similar (maybe even the same person!) buy a camera from me on eBay. I was obviously curious, like you, but as he paid through paypal and had good feedback I went for it. Turns out it was a photographer turned business man buying and selling camera gear! :)

If they've paid by paypal etc, I wouldn't worry.

quite possibly certain members on this forum - sell numerous copies of the same or similar lens in quick succession, sell stuff across all brands, sell items without knowing details including things like paying for a 'full' IR conversion but not knowing what, if any, new filter has been put in

If you see them selling on the forum, RTM. Trading is not allowed in the for sale section.

He might be legitimate but most likely a scammer. take all precautions

how this scam /scammers work is

1) they would seem legitimate with good feedback
2) very likely ask you a question about the item before purchase
3) pay promptly soon after purchase and its very likely you would ship the item soon after
4) within about 24 hours, the paypal payment would go 'under review' for unauthorised payment and the payment would be refunded

The best way to deal with selling any high value item is check with paypal (even call them ) to see if everything is ok with the payment, and dispatch the item after at least 24-48 hours and yes make sure its shipped via secured signed for postage.

How do I know this. Well a few months ago I was trying to sell a 5D Mk III. the item was twice bought by seemingly genuine buyers and cleared payment only to be reversed after 24 hours
