A Picture a day (My 365) . . . Made it to the End!

27th Mar: Bit of a work shot, was totally mesmerised watching a batch program run whilst on the phone. Wow, my work is exciting!

Dear God that would drive me wild!!!

Do you work from home? It's just I have a picture of you sitting at a desk in a large office pointing a DSLR at a monitor...

Been working at home for over a year now, since 99% of all my colleagues were made redundant last year, no need to travel to an office when you work with people in Texas and Bangalore :|

One of the reasons I find this 365 lark so difficult (the weekends offer salvation)....

Hehe, yeah spot on, off to find a box this weekend . . .

BTW, did I notice you painted the inside of your box, or was it just paper?

It's just A4 paper laid out to fill the frame of the camera. I'm going tomorrow to try and find cheap a3 card to use as the paper isn't great. I also "found" some linen material in blue, black and purple in the bleach mill so I should be using that soon as well.

The batch jobs I run just have a second counter - is that any better? I really like the photo, the angle and the out of focus top and bottom make me think of my eyes blurring and attention drifting off...

Ah right - I just picked up the answer to my question about the inside of the box here. Thanks :)

28th Mar: Sorø Mærsk Container ship, leaving Southampton. At 347 meters long she is a big lady and one of the biggest container ships you would see in Southampton (the largest to date is 350m). Only just managed to grab this shot before she disappeared behind the flats, taken from Hythe.

Looks H-U-G-E, and the picture helps to give a good idea of the size of the thing.

Well captured

That's some size!

It surprises me how quick they can travel, I sometime see them from my kitchen window on the Forth and they're never in view for long!

Like the computer shot Julian - if it were green I'd be thinking you were in the Matrix :D

I've seen those ships before but didn't realise they were that long!

Thanks all for the comments, I wonder how many ship shots I will have by the end of the year? :geek:

29th Mar: STEAM Museum of the Great Western Railway, Swindon. Great museum, full of interesting stuff even for non trainspotters like us. Only noticed towards the end that my lens had salt water droplets on it from Southampton the previous day, so 90% of my shots were ruined :(

The only other shots I could salvage are here http://shrubmonkey.smugmug.com/gallery/7751502_rtJ6S#501213709_7RGED

My usual 3 shot AEB HDR processed image

Thanks mate, had to go back and retake this shot, due to the water spots on my lens, then had to wait ages until the poor engine was free of kids, I know my girls will be the same when they grow up :)

Excellent HDR image, so many different reflections and so much to look at too. Very interesting shot. Ive not been able to do HDR since my pc needed rebuilding, I lost my plugins:'(, so now the only one I have is Lucis art. I miss photomatix most. Grrr stupid computers!

Good shot, but I also want to see it in a really high contrasty black and white LOL

Thanks dell, will try and get around to doing a B&W version later

Thanks zarozina, sorry to hear about your computer woes. If you have your email with Photomatix license key, you should be able to download the full version again.

30th Mar: Solitary tree. Taken from a field right outside my village. single shot exposed once for the sky and once for the ground, then the parts of each merged, together with B&W conversion and D&B tidy up.

Thanks JD, It does look like a skull but it's just a big stone. Was a hard shot to take as the sun was directly above the tree, so had lots of shots with extreme lens flare, but like this one the best.

Thanks Dave. Another funny day of not knowing what to shoot, plus I've started to entertain the idea of blowing some money on a 5D Mark ll, well if I'm gonna upgrade, why not (hope to be going to the LCE Pro show at Southampton on Wednesday) :help:

1st Apr: Day off to pick up my mother-in-law from her world cruise on the Oriana at Southampton berth 106. At 107 were these photogenic cranes.

After that I went back to Southampton, to visit the London Camera Exchange Pro Show. I got a chance to use and handle some of the cameras I'm interested in (D300, 50D, 5D mkII, etc). The 5D mkII was amazing, from the build quality, the screen, the bright viewfinder, the image quality at higher ISO (3200 looked super). Coupled with the 24-105 lens it was like driving in a Bentley having got out my Ford Focus (350D). The 50D handled really well too. Interestingly I did not get on with the D300, button layout seemed to confuse me.
