Yet another usenet link.... but a very good one.

Fancy a radio station that learns your taste and plays music it thinks you will like? Gives you new stuff to try and responds to your opinion.....

http://www.pandora.com/

Just type in an artist name to start it off.

I read there are advanced features you get by registering somewhere but needs a US zip code - so people register with 90210 (beverly hills !). I read one comment that the registering bit gave you spyware but that was disputed straight away. I have trawled Google and find only positive comments - no spyware or other negatives. Spybot is still clean after using the site on my system.

Cool. I'll have a look at that later.

OK the register bit comes up after a few listens.

Says current version is free but may be subscription only in future. 90210 worked fine :) . Used a gmail account but did not need to check it to register.

Cool - thanks alot for the link. Have registered and set up my own station playlist - at last I can listen to what I really like :thumb:

looks really cool at the mo, playing keane and i'm jigging.
TFS

at last somthing good on the radio

Brilliant!
Thanks for sharing the link.
I never realised Black Lace had so many hits. :thumb:

I've been using this site since I first posted the link. I now have 5 artists as the 'seed' for the types of music I like on one 'station' (not similar artists either). I have clicked a few times to say what i like and what i don't as it plays.... and it learns well!

Around one song in four is someone I listed, the others are often artists I would never have thought to listen to - and I like 95% of it. the other 5% gets the thumbs down and it learns :)

The site is not officially available in the UK so I won't be subscribing but i could see me being willing to pay a small subscription if it were. So if you didn't try it the first time round have a go and see how it improves as you tell it what you like or don't.

Cheers for that link, its already turned up few gems.:thumb:

I absolutely love it. I've been listening to it lots since you posted the first link, and it comes up with some fantastic stuff from bands I've never heard of, which is broadening my musical horizon :)
I have to say that there isn't that much that I give the thumbs down to.
Thanks again for sharing this link :thumb:

anyone know how to play your favourites once you have saved them????

There is a FAQ page that says it is only licenced on a streaming radio basis so I doubt you could play songs on demand.
Think you will find the favourites thing is collecting song names that you might want to BUY sometime in the future.

cheers Robert, i thought as much.

I have finally got around to having a look and a listen to this today. Only using five artists as my base but so far I am very impressed.

Cheers for sharing :thumb:

i doubted it for dance orientated stuff, so i set the artist as paul van dyk and it's quite good :)
in favourites you go ;)

I've still got it on in the background now, from the original four or five artists I listed I now have about thirty arists that I have never heard listed in my favourites list now. That should give a bit to go at. ;)

It's a great idea and seems to work really well. For streaming radio the quality is very good too. :smilenod:

It gets the big :thumb: from me :)

I've noticed it seems to drift from one style to another rather than just mix all the styles of your artists randomly. I have BB King and Jeff Beck amongst others in one station and it spends a while playing blues then switches to the more extreme stuff for a while :)

Only artists in your 'station' influence the music decisions (and you saying thumbs up or down, don't like)

The favourites just go to make a web page you can go to and buy the music if you want to :)

Thumbs up from me, I realise that my favourites in the station are what I get to listen too and others from that genre of music that they are in, however I have a terrible memory and by adding in stuff that is played by Pandora that I had not previously heard of to my favourites I can then investigate those artists later to get a better idea than I have from just the snippets I get randomly.

It’s a great way of finding new artists and bands that are similar to what I already like :) Great find!!!

Oooh, I don't know... the other day it went from playing Ronan Keating (I have no idea how he got to be in there in the first place, but soon gave him the thumbs down!) to System Of A Down..lol

(For those of you who don't know, System of a Down are a heavy metal group - more my kind of music!)

Am still very impressed by Pandora, and my other half has now set his own station up too :)

You think you've got Keating problems... my wife is a mod on a Ronan Keating forum

Thats enough for Matty to ban you :whistle2:

Actually I do believe a certain other Admin here (not me before anyone says it) has recently been to an Osmonds concert :laugh1:

My wife and I have very different tastes in music... so different we hardly ever listen to music together.

She goes to many Keating gigs (is that the right word for a Ronan concert?) and meets her forum friends so they can wait at the gates to be first in (unless it is seated of course). Once a year I get dragged along - you can take some pictures she says.

I went to Newmarket last year - races then a concert. I spent the day wandering round getting horsey pictures, she spent the day waiting at the front of the stage. :nut:

After listening to PANDORA all week during my decorating spell, thought I'd give this thread a shameless bump for all the new members :D
Still churning out some great stuff - all the music i like, with no adverts

Cheers, Ears. Will give it a go!
