Any suggestions for a more comfortable strap for my Canon 50D, I have found carrying it around for a long time with the standard strap is giving me neck/back ache. I have been looking at Black Rapid Straps, any recomendations of models/other manufacturers?

Optech if you prefer a neck strap but really Black Rapid is the way forward, taking the weight off your neck.

I've got a weakened neck and nerve damage after a car crash and my BR made carrying the camera for a day doable again.

Thats what one did you go for? I'm trying to decide whether I should get a sport one or not.

i use Black Rapid RS-7. Bought it recently and after adding the Black Rapid Buck to protect the strap from unclipping (or use cable tie for cheap option) then i find the strap is uberly comfort to use all day.

I use my Gripped D300 plus 28-70 f2.8 lens yesterday along with a external flash attached all day in york and find it no discomfort at all.

Hi

I have recently purchased a Black Rapid Sport. I certainly takes the strain from my neck. I have a D3S with a 70/200 on it, so a fair weight. The strap constantly opens up. The ajustment is at the back so a real problem when out alone.
The strap came assembled so its not my fault, its a design fault. They are very expensive for what they are, just a strap.

Graham.

I bought an RS-5 and it's awesome!
Sometimes I almost forget I'm carrying my gripped 5D + 24-105.

edit: I don't consider them cheap, though...

optech do a utility sling strap, its pretty decent for the money

I know you've purchased a black rapid, but for anyone else interested, take a look at the carryspeed range of straps. Well pleased with mine.

I'm thinking of buying a Q-Strap - has anyone owned both a Black Rapid and a Q Strap to compare?

OK - that's good to know... Was it the connection part or the actual strap itself?

I was not sure about Black Rapids at first but have grown to love my RS-7.

When on holiday I noticed so many people using neck straps, mainly wrapped round their wrist and soon realised how much easier the BR is in use.

Highly recommended.

The Op/Tech dual harness does the same thing as the BR - takes the weight off your neck, very happy with mine, no problems when using with 1 or 2 bodies for several hours.

My mate had no strap on his gripped 5d MKII and 24-70mm f2.8 when we went to a trip together and he soon regret of not having any strap at all, but even then he said the normal strap is almost useless. He saw me using a BR RS-7 attached to my gripped D300 with 28-70 f2.8 and i shoot with ease and comfort. He then told me I have convert him to buy a black rapid strap lol.

Had both and preferred the Q-Strap as mine had a rubber shoulder pad ... can't seem to get that version now though. I've got 3 Q-Strap 'types' and find them great with the D3S and D800 with a variety of lenses from 35 f2 to 70-200 f2.8 :)

So after reading up this afternoon I had a complete change of direction and ordered the Op/Tech sling- it seemed to get better overall reviews than the Q-Strap for the same money.

I like my Optech sling strap a lot. Only thing I recommend is to get a fastener which attaches to the tripod mount like the black rapid ones. Attach the Op-Tech connector to that instead. Otherwise the strap gets in the way when you want to shoot portrait.

Hi

Optech pro loop is very good.
SunSniper for the heavy stuff
SpiderPro is effortless but somehow feels a bit vulnerable

What should I search for to find these? I've seen them on the Q-Strap site but they're quire expensive for what you get....

Any strap will be more comfortable if it is worn "bandolier" style diagonally across the body.

If you have it with the prism housing touching your side the lens will naturally hang vertically, which is far better.

I just use the basic OPTECH straps when I use one.

Ordered - thanks.

Just our of interest, do those of you with OP/Tech straps use both clips on the camera or just rely on one corner?

OP/Tech strap is all fitted - the strap itself is incredibly comfy and does feel nice and secure even on one corner. I've added some velcro cable ties for extra safety but I really don't think they're required.

The ability to quickly detach the camera from the strap is nice and I can see the advantage of having other modular options to click in, like the wrist strap.

There is a new version of the Sun Sniper out. The Sun Sniper Pro 2. Looks like very good quality although i'm finding it hard to source in the UK at the moment!

Chris where did you add the velcro cable ties to? I'm very confident with the straps ability to hold the weight of the camera but it can't hurt to have backup.

The wrist strap is also really comfy. I've recently found myself using the wrist attachment more rather than the neck strap.
