I was out today, intent on trying my hand at multiple exposure scenic shooting, I had a few problems really. I know I am ment to overexpose 1 shot, underexpose 1 shot and shoot a mid range shot. Now, the problem I had today was, that it was taking me a little while to alter the settings, (not long) and the clouds were moving very fast, so by the time I came to take the second shot, the clouds were in a different position, so I could not overlap the pictures and creat the desired effect.

Ive heard about taking 3-4 pictures at once, which are bracketed to +1,-1 and normal, but got no idea how to do this on my d200.

So any advice on this would be great. Also any other tips on this type of photography.

Thanks
Ben

I have no idea about the D200 but does it have an option for Auto Bracketing if so use that and set them at the desired intervals and take the 3 shots one after another and the camera should do the rest for you.

Ps. where in West Wales you from?

I will have a look and see. Im in Lampeter, near carmarthen. Why do you ask?

If the cloud is moving very quickly then there will still be some movement even with bracketing. Sometimes the effect can look very good though when the images have been processed. Rather like a long exposure where the clouds look blurred. If you can set up so that the cloud is moving away from you, instead of going across the screen you can get some very good results.
If that type of shot isn't to your taste, you can take 2 shots, one exposed for the sky and one for the foreground and merge the two in your editing software, if you have any.

Hi Ben, what are you intending to do with these multiple exposures? Is it to pick the best of the bunch or are you blending them together in some way?

If you have the software to handle raw files you can shoot 1 raw image and draw 3 (or more/less) extractions from the same raw file for the exposure range you want. As long as no highlights are blown in your original then you should be OK
