What to look for with light seals.

All forms of mojo had completely vanished for well over a year or so but I decided to finally get developed a film that was sitting in an olympus trip 300 for a year( sadly not a sexy one) but it was free!

Anyway it seems perhaps film is coming back so I grabbed this little konica c35 only cost £7 so couldn't say no [emoji5]️

Description was it had been tested with fresh batteries but no film and all was working fine, but that's not quite true as the battery and compartment were caked in some kind of dried flaky crud! Put a new one in and needle works..

As I've digressed ( as always) it stated light seals were showing signs of wear but I don't know what I'm looking for ..
So back to original question is there a sticky with info.? I couldn't find anything on a quick search [emoji16]

its the foam around the seals, they can go sticky or powdery or lose chunks

it may well not matter, or it might, hard to know

Open up the back, look/prod around the edges/hinges for either a) foam or b) the manky, sticky residue where foam has disintegrated.

If you find the residue, or you take a roll and see light leaks, then jgood21967@aol.com is your man for new foam. Can't fault the product, the service, or the price (about as much as you paid for the camera :P )

Here's a video that might help a bit.. here

Nice camera too

Excellent thanks for the video, stupidly I never think of YouTube..

Camera is a lot more solid than I expected and will be handy for keeping with me for just incase moments[emoji5]️

I'm debating whether to own up and say I've already stuck a roll of film in.. Luckily just my last £1 Agfa so if they are shot not a huge waste of film..
I'd forget about the mention of seals until I'd gone back to re check the sellers description because of the battery incident..
That'll teach me for being so eager

Well that makes sense I guess and I could be lucky[emoji4]

A good lens on the C35...this is quite a big crop and it stills looks sharp:-

T, I presume you have cleaned all the battery leakage from the camera?

Aww that's pretty cool, I've just been looking at a Flickr group for the camera and I'm hoping for good results

Haha yes I did just with s cotton bud, I'm guessing it had been like that for awhile as it just flaked away, I'm hoping it won't have damaged anything

Vinegar is the best solution (groan) must get rid of all the white 'flaky stuff'

Well the white stuff is alkaline, you need a mild acid to neutralise it. It will 'fizz' when you apply the vinegar.
Dont forget to clean the vinegar off with a little water on your bud. Dry thoroughly before use!
There's probably a video on utub about it somewhere!
