Lets see who really knows their film stock!

Here is some grain. This is from a 6000dpi scan and is 100% crop from a 35mm negative representing approx 2x1.5mm of negative.

if Anyone gets it right they can feel free to carry it on if they like

So... what's this lovely bit of silver halide then?

T-Max 100?

Rollei IR 400?

I'll be surprised if it isn't 100...something

I'd do a list but its not in the spirit of the thread..

so I eliminate

LUCKY 100 SDH

:)

I'm going to have another go with Acros 100, pretty similar grain

Prepare your best suprised face, it's not a 100 speed film. :D

hmm... in that case, Delta 400

FP4?

Failing that, HP5?

EDIT:

Ahh hang on, you scanned at 6000DPI? That is therefore sensor noise and interpolation, and could be any film. PanF? CHS 25?

On the right track with Ilford, but none of the above.

Not sensor noise, definitely the grain structure magnified, deliberately chosen a nice neutral bit of neg well above the noise floor for this

XP2?

Could be SFX 200 actually

Finally!

Yes, that was a miniscule portion of XP2 Super developed in Caffenol CH earlier this evening. When developed in Caffenol you get a much much finer grain than C41, but at the expense of exposure lattitude and a much, much longer dev time. (This was 38 minutes in fact which wasn't required, 30 would have been fine I just muddled my figures!)

Your turn, if you want!

Really that depends on the scanner - for instance some scanners such as the Plustek series only actually reach their full potential once their used on their maxiumum optical setting even if it is a massively overstated figure. The thing is that the CCD can resolve that figure, but other optics in the pathway such as the high pass sensor mainly limit the actual DPI to much less than that. The Plustek 7600i for instance resolves about 3250 dpi at 7200 dpi but yet when actually used at 3600 dpi only resolves about 2600 dpi. (According to reviews that I have read of it where a USAF 1951 resolution test slide was scanned)

I would say a 400 speed, non tabualar grain film such as Tri-X or HP5+

Righty, this is a 100% crop of a 120 Neg. Scanned at 2400Dpi

Good Luck

Plustek 7200 in the above.

This is a bit of fun, not a scanner comparison thread, take sensor discussions to the digital sections please, they love to compare sizes over there.

Nope

100% crop of a 35mm negative scanned at 3200 DPI

Winner receives unopened box of jaffa cakes.......Prize to be collected in person from Nice!!! lol

(It's to hope Matt (Matty2) from nearby Sospel doesn't come on and win as I'll have to surrender my evening snack!)

Very much in the dark I'm afraid......Perhaps I've been a little unfair with this one as it's not a film I've used for a while...I'm not even sure if it's still available.....that may help or hinder you ! lol

Just done a search and yes the film is still available in at least one outlet, in the uk anyway....I'm unable to get it locally but that's france for you! lol

Hmmm Plus-X?

I'm trying to give clues without making it too easy .....i can't let go of my jaffas without a fight! lol

rollei retro 100?
