OK, so I realise I'm not on my own here, but in relation to THIS thread, heres a little bit about me. Please, I dont want this to come across as a sob story:'(, things are looking up and I can see light at the end of the tunnel !! :D

I'm 32 and have 2 kids. Tom aged 5 and James aged 3. Toms in school but James still has another year to go. He gets 4 out of his 5 grant sessions at the local nursey which has given me a few hours a week all to myself after looking after them both since they were born.

My wife is a nurse. Before we had the kids she was a ward sister and did extremely well for herself. I was a valeter back then and didn't really do very well for myself  When the kids came along she dropped her hours so she could spend a bit more time watching them grow. This meant a drop in wages but it was worth it to spend time with the kids. After a while, the drop in wages meant we couldn't afford to live anymore, so she started working nights. This paid a bit more and were breaking even moneywise with a little bit left for the odd pint down the local or a meal somewhere etc etc.

Then a secondment came up for her which was a 9 month job with the prospect of something better at the end of it. As it turns out, the secondment has become something of a mammoth task. She is now on the least money she's ever been and is doing more work than she's ever done.

She's always earned just over the limit at which we would be entitled to government benefits, so while we do get a little, if she earned a few quid less, we'd get a lot more. Thats sods law and the stroy of my life !

In short, my missus works her arse off and we get stung by the government, but thats a whole different thread.

Having the kids has changed my life around completely (as it would). I have learned the true value of a lot of things. Possesions are the last thing on my "importance" list. We have never had any parents around to look after the kids as the inlaws live 130 miles aways and my parents are just too busy. I feel quite bitter when I meet people who's parents have the grandkids 3 or 4 days a week so mummy can work, thats just something I'll have to get over, I've never had that.

I've always been very laid back and can hardly be described as a stress head, although lately I get more and more annoyed at the simple lack of peoples ability to drive. Parking being my main area of concern. Again, thats a whole new thread !! and lets face it, if thats my main concern, then things can't really be that bad can they

Now, since James started his nursery sessions, I have been able to work 2 days a week, 5 hours a day. I bring home about £300 a month, but this helps a lot and gives me the freedom I've yearned for for 4 years !! :naughty:

Anyway, thats a little insight into my life. There is more but I dont want to appear TOOO boring.

Like I said, things are looking up !! My wifes boss has recognised her predicament and is looking into giving her a structured job with a proper salary. I dont want or need to earn loads of money, I'm not driven by money, I'd just like to have enough to live comfortably.

Hope it all works out for you and your missus.

I'm well aware that theres folk worse off than me, but this threads not about them. Its about me !

If I DID stop to think about all the people worse off then me, I WOULD be a jibbering wreck !!

I think there a great number of us could write a similar story I could for one but Im of the opinion life is what you make it. You just have to accept that. If you let it eat at you then it will devour you.It may knock you down a few times but you get back up and try again. And hopefully it works out in the end, Im 59 and still doing a few rounds with it :) Im glad things looking a bit better for you take care :).

Why would it be a dig? Your life doesnt effect my life so it's not going to bother me is it... So no not a dig. I was trying to make the point that people are worse off.. I ahve been in worse positions than you are in now and theres probably people reading your message that are in a worse position now.... "wipe yer eyes son" is from a well known if not highly annoying song...

I believe in every word that I wrote as a response to you... look at your life as a blessing. Take it as a dig if you want. .. But if you make a post like that in a public forum then expect all manner of responses. Some you will like and some you wont.

BTW... If/When I ever want to have a dig.. You wont need to ask if I was :)

So its not a dig then, thats fine. Just came across as though it could have been a "you dont know the half of it son" or "You dont know how lucky you are", because I do know I'm lucky really, just dont seem like it most of the time, so no worries

ps: Its " dry your eyes mate " :)

12 years ago i had NOTHING, no where to live as such (from one mates to another) owed thousands in debt, owned nothing. I dug deep and worked my **** off, all hours god could send and came out the other end a new man, no matter how bad it looks, "it wont always be dark at 7" as my gran used to say, youve got each other and your kids thats all that matters.
