Yes
Today folks i will be handing in my request for voluntary redundancey at work. I've been stagnating there for a while and there is much talk of another bout of 4 1/2 day week and the threat of loosing my shift bonus if they put me onto permantent days.33 % pay cut will not be fun.

So its off into the wild blue yonder for me. The freaky thing is that today on the 12th July five years ago i took another monumental decision and ended my first marriage. Five years on and all is well. So i'm throwing the dice of life in the air again and going to see how things turn out.

I can either go now with cash in my pocket or wait another six months till i'm really fed up with things and go with nothing. Work mates say i'm mad not having a job to go to but i have a buffer financially and i think i'll look a lot harder if i dont have a job than if i were to stay and start looking.

Good luck mate, life is all about taking risks, and if you are lucky they pay off and life is good :)

Good decision to take - I took voluntary redundancy in February. I am in a rather fortunate position that hubby took early retirement and we are now living in Spain. However, there was a lot of different turns that led to the redundancy, all of them could have so easily not been there, so I say, if it's available, it's there for a reason. Grab it with both hands and look to the future

Who knows what the next card fate will deal you?

Aww good luck with everything. I hope everything works out for you.

All the very best of luck Dave.

I did that after working for 36 years. I had really liked working, but changes introduced in the last 5 years of employment turned the firm into a mess and it was getting worse.
It was agreed that I get VR and I was given a date 90 days away. Every day was a rolling joke as I made a big thing of the countdown. Come the final day it suddenly seemed a very serious move and I had doubts. These doubts lasted no longer than that evening and I realised all the weight was now off my shoulders.
Never looked back after that. Hardly got a spare minute, but days are filled with things I like doing.
Now in my 8th year of "freedom".

Thanks for the good wishes. Part of me is quaking in my boots and part of me is excited at the new start, much the same as when i ended my marriage. Looking at that five years down the line i often wonder why i didnt do it earlier. Hopefully i'll have the same feelings in five years time regarding my job.

"the futures so bright i gotta wear shades"

Congratulations on the start of your new life. Life is supposed to be exciting, I believe we function better for a good, strong dash of adrenaline! Enjoy

I think about a quote which says:

"A life time spend making mistakes is infinately more productive than a life time spend doing nothing"

Best of luck to you. I left a job in 2005 that I hated, nothing to do with redundancy, I just couldn't bring myself to get out of bed anymore, it was making me into a person even I didn't recognise - let alone my wife or family. So I gave notice, and left. The look on people's face when they asked 'Where are you going to work?', to which I replied 'I have no idea', was priceless. 5 years on, I have my own successful company, it's taken me places I'd never dreamed of and it was definitely the best thing I ever did.

You'll be fine, hang onto a positive attitude and make the most of your skills.

How lucky are you, I've tried that twice now and both times been turned down. Had big plans for my future but now have to continue working for while :(
Good Luck with what ever you decide for the future

The only time I wanted redundancy, they told me not to bother as I was not on the list???? However I gave my notice 6 months later, to go to a better position with better salary. (I would have liked the redundancy cash though.)

You can never have everything.
