Well found out my daughter got into uni but no idea of grades just proud as punch she did it.. :D
 
Same thing happened to my brother this morning and me three years ago, got the place but no idea of the grades :D

Well done A! Surely the school have sent out the results?
 
They have Nod this morning but no one is telling me what she got. (she isn't talking to me)
 
she got BBC in Biology chemistry and geography
 
Yep, she did Maths in her first year but dropped it in her second along with German. but she got good grade at GCSE in English and Maths

My daughter got her 1st year A level results today and were proud as punch of her. Just another 12 months to go ....
 
Thanks everyone she is a good kid and worked blooming hard to get these results
 
My daughter found out at 7 this morning via tracking that she had been accepted at UCL studying Archaeology it was nearly 3 hours later she got her results :)

I've just finished a science degree without maths, wasn't easy but I managed ok ;)

Congratulations, but I'm a bit surprised. My daughter is a scientist and got her degrees in South Africa, which has a broadly similar university system to the UK. Wits wouldn't accept an application to study science without a good pass in maths, and insisted on maths in first year too. That was a good few years ago though, and I suppose it may have changed.
 
They wanted GCSE at a grade B or higher as a minimum and those without a level maths had extraectures on the sort of maths that was relevant to get them up to speed. :)
 
Congratulations to all that achieved the grades they wanted/needed at A level this year. :thumbs: . Two years of slog to get there, remember it well despite the passing of time.

You needed English Language and Mathematics at O level grade C in addition to your A levels when I went to university. No general requirement for them at A level unless specific to the course you were reading, so I required mathematics at A level as I read an engineering subject.
 
My son got his "A" levels also BBC and Southbank uni has contacted him to confirm his place...WHOOP!! Well done to all the kids for trying so hard whether they got the grades they wanted or not.... there is always a place for them in the world

Been a stressful week waiting at ours. But Adam got A A B and A* in his extended essay. Got his first choice of York Uni to do Astro Physics. Very proud of him.
Congrats to all students who have worked so hard.

And yes, I'm rather glad I didn't require English to get into university. I really struggled with that subject and only just got the required C grade at GCSE to get onto A levels.
 
My lad has just got into York St John to study Sports coaching and Phys Ed

He wanted to go to Leeds Carnegie, i could have got him a PT job with the Leeds Rhinos coaching/Physio staff but his tutor said he wouldn't get good enough grades to get into Leeds so he opted for York, guess what, he would have easily got into Leeds with his results, bloody tutors know nothing and its now going to cost a fortune as he will need accommodation in York where at Leeds he is only 7 miles and a bus ride from home.
 
another good reason for him to go to York then - who wants to spend university living at home and working in a job dad got you ? - its supposed to be about spreading your wings and learning to stand on your own two feet, the academics is only part of it

I assume so but Leeds Carnegie is seen as a very prestigious Uni which is very, very sports orientated with direct links to Leeds Headingley Carnegie Stadium where Leeds Rhinos and Yorkshire CC play and is home of the Yorkshire Cricket academy, hes a Leeds Rhinos supporter and it would have given him the opportunity to work with the players and coaching staff, i reiterate that this would have been his choice and not ours.

The part time work he was offered would have given him a massive step up the ladder to a permanent position after he gets his degree as he would have already been doing part time what he wants to do after he finishes Uni.

if you say so - I hadn't heard Leeds Poly (as was) referred to as a prestigious university before ... at least not outside their own marketing.

Anyway best to focus on the benefits of where he is going, there's nowt wrong with York and it will probably broaden his horizons a bit to go beyond leeds

It is with regard to sport, but youre right about focusing on where he's going, Yorks a great city, hes really excited as are all freshers i imagine.

Anyway its academic as Gary's son isn't going there , and its probably best to focus on the benefits of York st john rather than dwelling on what might have been
 
I know but I was just pointing out that Carnegie is now one of the top sports schools. The Met itself might not be but the sports school is. And fwiw, I still got a bloody good job despite having a 2:1 in Business Information Technology from the Met
