A late starting 365 :-(

7th August
I have taken this shot before but when the clouds are this nice

8th August
today it rained a lot - all day in fact and when I was out looking for inspiration I say this rain drop - you can just make out the grain silos in it. My close up lens is not quite "macro" enough to really do it justice but I quite like it anyway.

I really like the droplet shot Nic, it's got a nice abstract quality to it. I think it looks good upside down too :)

I like the water drop shot - very effective composition :)

I'm sure your mum will like the portrait, and it's nice to see a family looking so happy together

10th August I have been back in Munich for a few days and bought a new toy. The AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G. Lovely but I am still getting the hang of it - getting somones nose in focus but the rest of the face already out. :( This is one of the first test shots - and of course the next few days are as well...

Cant see the one from the 7th.

Like the drop shot, i love seeing reflection in drops :)

Thats a very nice family portrait, im sure your mum will love it!

Thanks - the drop was pure chance but I like it as well. The portrait has gone down well. I am sure relatives all over England are being bombarded by it as we speak. :D

14th August We went on a trip to the mountains and I tried again at some landscapes. Still not sure that I really have the hang of it. For some reason they seem the hardest thing to get right.

there are more of the day on my Flickr page below

Thanks Lisa, the shot is already HDR the camera could not cope with the clouds and the grass. It is up at about 6000ft but that is easy here. It is funny that I look like your farrier - blacksmith is one of the jobs I really admire.

Like today's picture nic, fantastic place you live. My only suggestion is to try and look for some foreground interest. I can see some interesting wooden fence posts. I would have tried to get up close to the fence posts (not the green bin thing) and tried a composition with the fence posts leading the eye into the shot and the the grandeur of the mountains and clouds behind. Just an idea, could look crap.

17th August.
We were in Lucerne picking up a friend from the station today and I found this statue in a park, it is of two wrestlers (a Swiss national sport). Not sure if I like this more in mono or colour...

17th August.
No shot for today - I was about to start taking one and then a friend who was staying with us heard her daughter had been rushed into hospital so I had to take her there. A 300 mile round trip starting at 7pm :-(.

18th August.
We have been growing fennel in the garden and when we picked the first one we found this chap, and another one like him on it. Now we are keeping them on the balcony - I think they are swallowtail caterpillars but I am not sure...

19th August.
I was out with Ticky today in a really amazing place - a river in the mountains, only accessible by walking up through the gorge in the river. Of course I took my camera and I got some good shots too. However, when I came home this little man was waiting...

and of course what more can I say...

20th August
I am suffering a real motivation crisis, at the moment I am carrying on because I would be really p****d of with myself for stopping now. So three filler shots:

The chillis are growing well in the pots on the balcony, they seem to really like the sun there.

Glad to hear you are continuing too. Having kids (especially a new born) puts a strain on everything in your life, so the fact that we're managing to take a picture a day is something to feel proud of.

thanks for the support - I will continue and I have decided on a few changes to make it easier. I will only shoot in JPG at the moment and reduce the PP to the real basics to make that time shorter and I will choose a weekly topic to make the choice of the subject simpler. To start it off it is a "chili week" I will try and take photos of the family all week.

23rd August
Today we went out cycling with the boys - they have both been cycling for a few weeks and are now really keen and want to go they whole time. One major crash each but no nasty injuries. This is Benny on his bike.

25th August

I was inspired by a shot on the BBC website to try something similar today - here is the original BBC News and here is mine.

Things I learned:
  • It looks like a shallow DOF - it isn't
  • His Lens was a lot wider angle than mine
  • Adults probably pose a lot more agreeably than children
  • Lighting makes a big difference

Not really revelations to rival Newton but there we go
