Since I know I will be asked - he arrived at 1.40 this morning  and weighed 3330 grams. A bit of a struggle at the beginning and he had to spend a few hours in an incubator but is now all well (though still in the hospital so that they can keep an eye on him).

congrats, glad they both ok:thumbs:

Congrats Nic, know what that is like, both my girls were born at 33 weeks and each spent a month in hospital.

Hope mum and baby are doing well ?

Thanks for all the congratulations - I am going to trx to keep this up but I am sure that there will be some compromises- mostly in the processing and posting of the photos (thought the demand for photos is high at the moment from the family spread around the place). Anyway - a couple of catch ups and the latest one...

24th July (forgot to take one today somehow so here is one of the three boys together taken a day earlier)

26th July
Tanja and Jacob are now back home (the end of quiet nights for me for the next few months) so we had a day getting used to everyone being here. Here we have Benny sat on the sandpit enjoying an ice cream.

Glad all are well, but at least you have read the book, seen the film, bought the t-shirt this time around ;)

Woah! - Big catch up for me.

The last pictures i remember was of a 'bump' and now its all over bar the kicking and screaming

Congratulations to all, and look forward to many more pictures of the new born

28th these are all taken today - we will be sending out a card to say thank you for presents and so here is the photo...

We had to take him back to the hospital today to get a check up - all going well :)

29th July
I bought a telescope a while ago and have finally got around to building it and trying it out. Of course despite the "this is not designed for taking photographs..." I have had a go with the camera as well. This is the first result...

I have no idea what the focal length of the moon shot is - the telescope is "25 times magnification" set up as it was there (it can be set up to be 50x but the view is too dark to be useful) and then of course the camera itself which was 55mm. So your guess is as good as mine on that one...

Thanks everyone - not much encouragement needed so here is another one.
30th July. Asleep in my hand - if he is like the other two it won't be long that I can manage this :)

31st July. and to help out Granny (my mum) is here doing her best to keep me in line

1st August. The first of August is the Swiss national holiday - the day on which they celebrate the signing of the first federation agreement of the first 4 Cantons to join the Swiss Federation. It wasn't actually signed on the 1st of August but if you have a bank holiday on the 1st of August a lot of people are on holiday anyway and you have less econonic impact. Very organised - very Swiss :)

Anyhow we went up into the mountains with the boys and enjoyed the lovely weather (with the additional benefit of it not being too hot). Here we have the view taken from the moutain hut were we had lunch.

2nd August. I went out and picked some more gladioli from the garden in the rain and came in and thought - great a macro shot of some of the detail of the water drops on the flower. Camera, lens all prepared turn it on "battery low - shutter disabled!":razz::razz::razz:

So this is the shot but taken with the p&s set to macro. Not as bad as I had expected to be honest.

3rd August Still not got around to charging up the D40 so another P&S effort today - Jacob wrapped up after his bath.

4th August. Back to the D40, I am trying to improve on landscapes - not sure what I am doing wrong really there are plenty of great views around here but for some reason I don't like my attempts. Here is the latest...

Know how you feel, sometimes I look around and think there must be a million things to shoot in a scene, but the spark is not there. I think the problem with today's shot is composition. There is nothing to lead you through the landscape. Looks like a super location, so I bet there are soe cracking shots just waiting to be taken ;)

I've found, and I'm no expert, that foreground interest normally makes a good picture, also look for natural lines in the landscape that "draw" your eye into the picture.

I also like my landscapes to be near or thereabouts the thirds, so the horizon on a third etc. But, that's just me.

Edit: Try and keep your aperture quite narrow, any where around f14-f20ish, just me again probably, but I find that this gives the impression that the whole image is in focus.

New Hope!
My rose - which was completely eaten away just a few weeks ago has started to grow new buds. :)

A hectic day at work so just a grab shot with the close up filter on...

Is that that Raynox thing?? It's hardly degraded the image quality at all. Lovely detail, glad the rose lives on!! Couple of wee dust bunnies still there though!! I suffer terribly from them. :( There is just the one on my sensor that is really noticeable. Must get a proper clean done. :)

6th August
Time for another Jacob shot. This one of my hand and his, taken with the other one :) Which should explain the slight lack of sharpness.

not sure if I like the mono better though
