Hi folks - when we are visiting places, I always try to nip in to the local independent shop - but they are not always obvious. Could you put your favourite local shop on here - be good to know who's where and worth a visit. I am in Herefordshire but go to Dursley in Glos to CLIFTON CAMERAS - I do always ring ahead and check they have more than the display model if I am after a specific piece of gear as I did have a wasted journey once. Thank you...

On the few occasions the missus wants to visit Oxford St in London, I usually pop into Camera World on Wells St - halfway between Tottenham Court rd and Oxford st tubes. A nice excuse to get away from clothes shopping for a while.
It has also been useful when I wanted to buy stuff at short notice - as they often do good deals with prices close/ as good as most online prices.

I like Mifsuds in brixham - principally for second hand gear although they do sell new.

I like T4 cameras in Whitney, also have branches in Swindon and Newbury although never been to those. if you after a bag Morris photo at Chipping Norton is the place around here

My local Wilkinsons Cameras (they have several stores in the NW) have knowledgeable staff & are always very helpful, so I use them as much as possible, even if items are slightly more expensive.

Thanks Guys...any more out there - North East for example when visit the in-laws?

I've used Digital Depot in Stevenage a few times, always very helpful & informative.

I use Devon Camera Centre in Exeter. Good local store, honest service but a little pricey...

Castle Camera's in Winton Bournemouth. Very well stocked, friendly and helpful staff, competitive prices on new and used equipment.

Charles Eagles & Son, Sunderland. Family owned and run for three generations. Decent second-hand stock for quite a small shop. They know their stuff, too.

Informed that they closed in September :(

Percival Cameras Eltham High St.
I used to get my film stuff there 30+ years ago, they know their stuff and give good advice which is why they have been going so long..

Pretty expensive though (both new and second hand), even just compared to other B&M stores.

I'll second Harrison's Cameras in Sheffield. Just bought my Fuji X-E2 from them at a similar price to Internet stores, and they gave me good trade-in prices for some old gear.

Not any more - they closed in September (now running photo workshops in Scotland?)

Sad to hear that. I drove past a week ago and the shop was still there with their signage up. Their shop in Bexleyheath closed a few years back, that one had not been open as long and I think that Jessops took some of their business. No independents around here now :(

I have edited my original post.

Cambrian Photography in Colwyn Bay, North Wales.

Knowledgable and friendly staff, and usually willing to knock something off the price, especially if quoting genuine prices elsewhere.

station cameras in Reading top shop top staff very knowledgeable
