Yes
I have the 50mm 1.8 and would like something around 28mm or 35mm,don't want to go L prices so would welcome a more experienced view.
thanks

In Canon you have the 24 f2.8, 28 f1.8, 35 f2.0 or the 35 f1.4 L. Both the 35's have good reps and I'm looking into a 35 f2 for myself in the near future. It really depends on how wide you want and how much you want to pay. All the Canon lenses are EF mount and need to be multiplied by 1.6 for the correct field of view for your 550D.

For Sigma you have the 24 f1.8, 28 f1.8 which are DG mount (same as EF mount) and the 30 f1.4 which is a DC mount lens (same as EF-S). The 30 1.4 has also got a very good rep but not suitable for a full frame body unfortunately, otherwise I would of got one of these.

I have no knowledge of any Tamron primes in this range or even if there is any and IIRC the Tokina primes are manual focus only, but I'm sure some of the wonderfully knowledgeable people on here will be able to answer that for you soon.

The 24mm f2.8 gives 38mm equivalent on the 550d which is a useful general purpose focal length. Also a nice sharp lens though an older design. Go for about £200 used. Mine got a lot of use on a 500d as a relatively small lightweight combination when I didn't want to carry too much. Also gives a nice wide angle on a 5d.

thanks Mod,I was a Mod back in '64":)

Blimey, I wasn't even born until 1965 lol. Been a Mod since I was about 12 years old and still have a scooter and parka. Got some good pics of a rally in lincoln a while back.

lol kool.I still have a parka and 3/4 blue leather, bennies levis 501. levi red label jacket stayprest, pork pie hat :) etc etc.

And from my skinhead era.my cherry red doc's sheepskin and braces :)

good to see so much interest and all the scooter rallies going on.I had a few mates from Lincoln,I knew some skins from there around '71-72.one crazy guy called Eric,i worked on the donkeys at Skegg and they used to come up bank holidays to fight the rockers :) happy days good clean fun.

Having owned a 35mm f/2 for all of 2 days I would advise against this lens.
The noise of the AF (which is really annoying) didnt concern me anywhere near as much as the inaccuracy of it. For snapshots it might be fine, but you could never rely on it - well thats my experience anyway.

As you have a crop cam, the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 might be the best, cost effective, option.

i cant recommend enough the sigma 30mm F1.4 had it on my 600d for ages and never take it off ! i was tempted with the 35m f/2 as above but heard they are a bit hit and miss..
