Following on from the previous thread I know have ordered the Nikon D50.

The next question is what Lens, previously I had a Sigma 70-300 F4-5.6 which was spot on very happy with the results however am i missing out on something or anyone suggest another good superzoom if the same or better quality

If you're money will stretch I think the extra quality of the Nikon 70-300mm VR would be worthwhile.

Faster focusing, better IQ and VR.

Thats the one, I think that would be a good choice, apparently it has very good IQ for that type of lens. You could match that with an 18-55 VR later, or, if you have a bit more cash, what about a Sigma 18-200 OS ( about £230) or Nikon 18-200 VR ( about £400). Both great walkabout lenses.
I bought the Nikon 18-200VR when I had my D50 and its been of a few cameras now, eventually my D300.
It is a surprisingly good lens and well regarded among those who appreciate how to use it properly.

how about the NIKON 55-200mm VR AFS DX ZOOM NIKKOR LENS 55-200 mm

is this the same as this is in my price range of up to a max of £200
Yes, I've been looking at that recently. It's £140 at Amazon.co.uk. Been comparing it with the Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 APO DG MACRO which is ~£125 at Jessops. As I've only got the 18-55mm VR kit lens both would fill a gap.

But it lacks VR. I'm guessing at that sort of focal length, VR is going to make a big difference in the image quality.

If you are happy with the Sigma why change,I have had one for about 3 years and it is an actual peach.I have seen thev Sony and Canon equivalents and they dont feel anywhere near as good although Nikon may be the exception
