Last year, I was very fortunate to be given this little collection, all in excellent condition

Thing is, I don't use my existing film cameras as much as I'd like so this lot hasn't been touched.

Anyway, I'll be seeing my 14 year old niece over Christmas (I don't get to see her very often) and I've been mulling over what to get her as a present. Now she does enjoy taking photographs and, according to my sister, she's rather good at it. I had the thought of passing on this kit to her in the hope that it'll broaden her knowledge & experience. My sister is quite keen on the idea so it's what I'm going to do. I just hope that my niece is receptive and doesn't keep looking for the screen on the back. :D

And no, it's not because I'm a tightwad! :p

Thats a great gift, Marc, really thoughtful :)
I trust you'll be harranguing her to post the results on here...

Nice pressie! I'd suggest a couple of Poundland films and a gift certificate to Boots (or cash) to get them devved/printed/scanned, too.

I quite like how cheap boots are, abit low res scans tho, but its fun to get dev and 9 by 6 prints for 7.50 :-)
haven't found any cheap 9 by 6 frames tho

I know poundland film is the way to go but, for a first go you could get her a process paid roll ??

Its just another hoop she won't have to jump through, and will of course dispel that scurrilous and unsubstantiated........tight arse rumour...

That's a good shout, do Boots do process paid rolls?

Another good thing is if she really get into it and want to go to collage to do photography, film is part of the course work, she will have a good head start :)

Or maybe even a Boots gift card that could be used toward processing? Then any type of film could be used.

A good idea.

She may well do something alng those lines, her mum has a load of art qualifications and she uses photography in her projects.

i dont think boots do process paid, or ive not seen it :x

As above, I'll probably get her a boots voucher. Just have to make sure she doesn't spend it on lippy!

Marc anyone with an interest in photography is going to love this as a present ... an introduction to the magic and mystery that is analogue photography and a wonderful way to learn the right and wrong things away from the digital delete button and start again.

Wow, simply wow, what a great thought, i bet she will be very happy!

what a great gift marc , I'm sure she'll be really grateful if she's into photography - you do realise its the thin end of the wedge though, which will end in her wanting to go shooting with uncle marc, and borrowing your lenses

its always really great to pass on stuff to people just getting in to photography - Ive given a couple of people on here old cameras, plus when the daughter of one of my colleagues was doing A level photography I lent her my spare DSLR, a Film SLR and a couple of lenses until she had the money to buy her own.

I think its a really nice gesture and one that will hopefully lead to greater things in the future (The OM10 is a great camera to stat on, I love how bright the viewfinder is compared to my modern kit)

Frustrating, but look at it this way... at least it wasn't something on the kit that broke instead.

Personally I'd be royally naffed off, too, but I'm trying to do the whole silver lining thing

Brilliant! She looks very happy. But do please get her to send you some pics to show us?

What a wonderful idea for a gift she does look very happy with that camera, I hope she gets plenty of use and enjoyment out of using it. And it would be great to see some off her images once developed.

Awesome, its always nice to see someone appreciate a gift so much

Marc, I bet it made you just as happy giving the gift as your Niece looks when receiving.

Lovely thought Marc

It was touch and go for a while. When she arrived, she proudly showed off the iPhone 5S her dad had just got her. Fortunately, her sim card hadn't arrived yet so I had an 'in'. :D

Seriously though, it was a big Wow moment when she saw it and that made me feel very happy.

Self-developed film and an iPhone are so far apart, photographically, that I'd say they're the perfect complement to each other. She's very lucky!

Good result Marc.

Brilliant, just Birlliant:clap:

i hope you point her in this direction Marc ,,,get her to sign up ,she might need help using it ,:D
