Good morning everyone. I was just wondering if anyone knows of any free photography course out there? Long shot I know. Thanks. Ian

To learn what Ian?

Wildlife, studio, lighting, basic camera skills??????????

Not sure you'll find a free course. Some books contain exercises. Have you looked into joining a camera club. There seem to be lots all around the country, many competitive, with a lot of excellent photographers as members. Their experience is invaluable. I joined one in September and have learned so much already. Good luck.

I'm going on a free weekend course the weekend after next. Although I get it free, because I work where it is.

To learn the basic areas of photography and to eventually take it further.

Im hoping to do product photography eventually as a side business as well as my main job in the week.

Thats something im going to look into further thankyou :)

I took a couple of beginner courses at my local college in the evenings. 10x week course, 2 hours a week was £63. Not free, but certainly not expensive. It might be worth looking up your local college.

What kind of topics did you cover Lester?

Hmmm that's an interesting on because product photography is all about lighting, how to light and control light/shade and reflections so not an easy one to find courses for at all, never mind free ones!

Looks like im going to have to start saving :)

A quick question for anyone who has a Photography degree. Was it worth all the time and effort?

The course was titled 'Digital Photography for Beginners'. Which I was a year ago. It covered the basics, shutter speed, aperture, composition, basic rules, etc. It was quite good, although I couldn't quite get my head round it all in the first course. It was designed to be 3x 10 week courses, following on from the previous. So I did the second part and due to the lack of numbers it was a straight repeat of the first course, but with a different tutor. The second tutor was much better and I know understand it a lot better. This was a course without a qualification, so was a bit laid back. My local college did a few other courses with various qualifications and I may take one of these in September when they start again. Try your local college, as the prices seem reasonable.

One other thing. They did 1 day studio courses as well on Saturdays. I think these were 10am till 3pm and were £29. There were 3 or 4 of these over the student year. I wanted to do the last one in April, but it was it fully booked. I think I will do one or two of these when they start again.
