A few test shots from today, I've been playing with the settings since Thursday and had a look at the focus fine tuning this morning. Must admit, it took me a while before I remembered
to set the view finder diopter, and I settled with +4 with the focus fine tune. I changed the auto focus to single centre point and the metering to centre average. None of the shots have been
adjusted so most look a little flat, other than changing the image size to 5mb they're straight from the camera...

One good thing with digital is the fiddling and seeing the difference it makes is virtually free and the exif info is there so you don't have to make notes like you maybe had to do in the film days.

You'll have to see what these look like after processing. Have you had a look at Nik Filters? If you look you can still down load a free version of them.

Hello Alan:giggle: I played assistant to a mate in the mid 90's on a shoot in Portugal, he'd shoot Polaroid, then 35 mm, with the final shot on 6 x 7. One of the my jobs was making sure
that all the neg numbers matched, so he could discuss what he wanted with the printer before the 6 x 7 was developed/printed...Thankfully, I didn't make any mistakes...

I was little surprised just how flat the first image is in comparison to the other three. The two house plants are indoors, the barrel pond is outside. The fishing basket is under
the car port, but there's quite a bit of Blue light under there from the corrugated plastic sheets. It wasn't at all sunny yesterday, the day before the water fountain (Fish) was going
like the clappers, but the light was very harsh...

I haven't seen Nik Filters, I have Elements 2008 and a few days ago down loaded the free trial of Affinity Photo to have a little play.

Pictures can look a bit flat but at least that gives you a good starting point and you can then tweak the in camera jpeg settings or filters or process the raws to your taste. I only use raw and mostly prefer a more muted look but you only have to look at pictures on line to see how far processing can go if that's your taste.

It's a long time since I used elements so I don't know anything about it. Nik filters runs as an ad on to the Adobe CS5 I use. I use the black and white filters and also the ones which emulate old cameras and films.

I would like to shoot RAW at some point Alan. I think the last time I tried it was in 2004 when I had Elements 2003 :giggle: The filters do sound very interesting but I'm unlikely to use any of the CS versions anytime soon. Not sure my laptop could handle it either and my desk top gave up the ghost a few months ago.
I prefer a more natural looking image when it comes to colours, although I do like some that have used a bit of HDR to add impact, although it's not something I've tried.
Love Black and White images, they seem to draw my attention more regardless to the subject...

Is it the https://nikcollection.dxo.com/

As it does say free download, but then it says buy now £86.99

If you hunt you can find the free edition. I forget exactly how to get it but it is there if you hunt.

This might be it, found it by typing in "Where can I get free Nik filters" and that got me to a question on their site and to this...

As I said, that might be it :D I hope it is :D

If that is it, and I think and hope it is, and if it's the same one I have I think it's well worth having.

I like playing with the old camera and film simulators. I don't normally add dirt and scratches but I do add vignetting.

This is what I have...

I use the Analog, Color and Silver Efex.
