As some of you may know I brought a canon eos5 the other day and I have a few Questions for you very knowledgeable chaps.

1. Can I use a modern canon flash, 430,580 exII's on the film body? I remember reading somewhere about voltages??

2. Can I use pocket wizards on the hotshoe or will it kill them?

modern flashes etc are fine with the EOS-5 - though you'll probably have to use 'em in manual mode iirc (it's a while since my EOS-5 died... but i think that the EZ range of flashes were the dedicated jobs for the EOS-5) Now the EOS-3 body would actually work pretty much exactly the same as your 5D - not to mention handling pretty much the same apart from focusing faster

The Flashes issue, is really older flashes killing the modern cameras, rather than the other way around. Pocket wizards/Poverty wizards are fine on the EOS-5/3 or even stuff like the old A-1 - indeed I've used a poverty wizard with a p/c cord and my Perkeo II (a 1950's folding 120 camera). I think that there MAY be some camera specific problems but certainly the Canon 35mm cameras will be cool

Cool, cheers Mark. I'm even more excited now..:)

Also do you have any idea why medium format film is cheaper than the 35mm equivalent at 7day shop?

You get bigger negatives but far less pictures per roll - I shoot 6x6 which gives 12 pictures per medium format roll and that roll is quite a bit shorter than a 36exp 35mm roll when hung together after processing.

The EZ flashes are still pretty easy to get hold of secondhand, pretty solid and dependable.
