A dead i-pod. Can anything be done about it?

Yes
I have an i-Pod in my car. I totally forgot it was there until a chance remark reminded me. I went to switch it on but it is dead as can be. No sign of life at all even when plugged into the car's power supply. Is it dead? Is there some internal battery that has flattened itself beyond recall, or is there some other tweak that might restore it to life?

I have brought them back to life, just try plugging into the main supply and leavening overnight :)

What they said. Plus try the Macrumors forum for all things Apple related - you should get loads of feedback there, it's Apple-Geek Central! :-)

Not sure which particular model it is. Just says 30GB on the back. I'll try leaving it pluged in overnight and see what happens - if anything.

Also - make sure that your charger lead isn't defective - they do fail - have you something else to try it with?

The lead is OK in the car - it charges the wife's iPhone no problem.

I've had it plugged into the mains for 30 mins or so and it is starting to show signs of being alive. Maybe the extra power of mains over 12 car battery is doing the trick.

Yeah generally speaking a dead iPod or even an iPhone can need a mains charge to get it going again. Hopefully you'll be able to fully resurrect it!

Thanks everyone. I left it overnight and it seems to be back up working again. Must remember to use it more often in future.

Thanks. I didn't know they were replaceable. I'll keep my eye on it, and maybe I'll be back for more help!!!

Yup, that looks to be the one. It definitely has video on it, and everything else looks right. We shall see how things go.
(You are a mine of information - many thanks)
