I am sure a few of us will have seen the news yesterday and today about the sad death of Rupert Hamer the Mirror correspondent embedded with the American Forces in Afghanistan and the very severe injury to his photographer Phillip Coburn.

Personally my thoughts go out to both their families.

I have read a couple of posts on here from a TP photographer ( Arkady?) who I think is working for the MOD in Afghanistan. To be honest when I heard the news my first thoughts were that it may have been him.

Just shows that while I was dithering about going out in the cold to take some snow landscapes - others are risking a damm sight more than some cold fingers.

So keep safe.

I'm sure I'm the same as many people, we don't really appreciate the effort these people go to, to bring us the news.

RIP to all.

Hear Hear, my sympathies to the family and friends of the fallen and my best wishes to those still serving.

Totally agree with the sentiments here. Respect to all involved in the struggle against terrorism in Afghanistan. Heroes the lot of em.

To get the pictures/stories they must often be in just as dangerous places as many of those fighting on the front line. It's easy to forget where all the pictures that keep us informed come from sometimes.

I heard the news story this morning, but hadn't even thought of that until you pointed it out. All of the people out there are doing a job and taking risks I wouldn't even dream of doing.
