a couple of unknown (to me ) birds

Looks like an Orange Bishop weaver, very rare to see here as they are native to Africa.

Rare would be an understatement. They're not on the British list, so if it was a migrant it'd be a first and you'll get a swarm to twitchers when word breaks. It's almost certainly an escapee from somebody's aviary.

(as Richard said) ..........Looks like Southern and Northern Red Bishops .. weaver family ........ normally found in Sub Saharan Africa

all sub Sahara .. but Southern is south of the Equator and Northern north of the equator but south of the Sahara ... but really same species

common in S Africa

Weavers are related to Finches ....... they build those distinctive nests

don't think that they would survive long in Europe ....... but I believe that they have been sold through pet shops in the UK
