How can you teach yourself to close one eye, especially when focusing?

I keep both eyes open due to this and for the life of me, I can't wink when using the camera.

IQ is not compromised whatsoever, but would prefer to rid my left eye of any distractions as I'm sure it'll help.

Any eye exercises I can do to help etc.?

Thanks in advance.

PS. BTW, have already tried an eyepatch

If shooting something fast paced, like sports etc, I try and keep both eyes open to make sure i see what else is happening around the shot. It's not a bad skill to have if you can do it naturally!

but if you're doing landscape stuff, err... have you tried jabbing your eye with a pencil?

I think it's best to keep both eyes open anyway, you're more relaxed that way.

dont bother learning... all it does it give you face ache after a full days shooting. Having the other eye open is more relaxing and helps you keep an eye [using peripheral vision] on what else is going on. Think yourself lucky, most of us have had to learn NOT to close an eye

you would never make it as a sniper:lol:

Good excuse to get a second body then!

Yeah i cant help but to close my eye i find it hard to keep the damn thing open! Its really wierd as soon as i bring the camera to my face the eye just closes!

Have you tried nodding,

evidently it's as good as a wink.

i find i can do both pretty easy tbh

i do find having my left eye open when doing sport is alot more beneficial as it helps with my timing and placement due to seeing a better view of the action than just through the view finder (i hope you understand what i mean lol)

but when im in park taking pics of swiggles as my daughter says i close my left eye

Just about every article i've seen by great action photographers have said to keep your other eye open to aid in your over-all vision and movement of the scene, especially with panning.

If only they'd make left-eyed cameras. If you wear glasses and shoot left eyed, it doesn't really matter whether you keep both eyes open or not - the right eye does not see much at all LOL.

I find an eye patch, similar to what a pirate wears does the trick. And people look at you funny!

They do that to me anyway :)

:lol: Maybe a trip to the local DIY store is in order, to get some super glue :D
